In the 19th century, it was erected in memory of the fallen Russian soldiers, who with their feats proved their love for the Fatherland and commitment to their faith. The names of Russian officers who gave their lives in the War of 1812 were imprinted on the walls of the church. However, in 1931 the temple was destroyed. Work on its reconstruction began only at the end of the twentieth century. The Church, like our Savior Jesus Christ, suffered a series of humiliations when he was blasted to pieces. It took a year and a half to clear out the wreckage, planning to build the House of Soviets. As a result, the Moscow swimming pool was built on the site of the pit in 1958.

Story

The Cathedral of Christ the Savior, which exists today, is an inaccurate copy of the 19th century cathedral, destroyed in 1931. The first cathedral began to be built back in 1817 according to the design of Karl Witberg, on the Sparrow Hills. However, in 1837, construction was stopped due to the unreliability of the soil, which suddenly appeared. Witberg was exiled. It was decided to move the construction site to Volkhonka, and another architect, Konstantin Ton, was chosen to implement the project. Construction of the temple lasted 12 years, and another 20 years were spent on interior decoration. It was completely finished in 1883.

In its original form, the temple existed until 1931. Until the Soviet government, at its next meeting, decided to demolish the building and build the Palace of Soviets in its place.

It was decided to recreate it again in 1988. The initiator was a public group of believers who created a petition - it was signed by hundreds of thousands of people. Many donated money for restoration. Construction of the new cathedral began in 1990 and lasted until 1999.

The Hall of Church Cathedrals was opened in 2000, and is now considered one of the best concert halls in Moscow.
