Weather resources. Whose weather forecast is more accurate? What kind of UV radiation from the sun is there?

The morning of an ordinary citizen begins with three things - a shower, coffee, and a weather forecast. Alas, in Lately Forecasters are increasingly making mistakes, and it is difficult to find the most accurate site with the most reliable information. The issue of trust is everyone’s business, but many people listen to forecasts.

Many users are in search of an accurate weather forecast site, because it is the first place a person visits when going on a trip or a long trip or business trip. There are a lot of similar sites, but the data on them differs.

Which weather forecast sites can you trust?

In order to find out what the weather will be like in the near future, the first thing we do is open the Internet in search of reliable data. The most accurate forecast is one that is made for a maximum of 5 days. It is important that the website includes other information in addition to temperature, and also emphasizes how the temperature “feels.” It’s better to look at the weather not by region, but by city. For major cities Some websites indicate the forecast by region, and often the weather in them is significantly different.

The most accurate site is the one that “works” with military airfields and airports. You can also trust those who have a smartphone application. There can be an error on any site, because it is difficult to make a 100% forecast. In the ranking of the most accurate sources, Meteoinfo.ru takes first place. It is updated with information from the Hydrometeorological Center every day.

Another popular weather site in Russia is Gismeteo.ru. The forecast on it is indicated for 3 - 10 days. Moreover, the dates are indicated on the website church holidays and signs.

The next most visited site is rp5.ru. The data is shown in the table, there is detailed information, indicates how much temperature is “felt.”

Users often go to Yandex. Weather", but there are errors on the site.

A fairly popular site is Intellicast.com. It is owned by a meteorological corporation from the USA. Airlines turn to him. The Windytv.com website belongs to the UK and has good animation. But no matter how rated the site is, you need to understand that even modern scientists cannot make a 100% weather forecast.

Many people wonder from time to time - how accurate are weather forecasts? Whose weather forecast is more accurate? In which direction are forecasts for my city most often wrong?

Time for math adventures!

Over the past few years, Yandex has been actively developing its weather service. A couple of years ago, Metium technology and precipitation forecast with minute accuracy were introduced.

Comments from fantast8 stood out in the discussion on these posts. The “amateur meteorologist” attacked Yandex technologies in a rather aggressive manner, and if you do not pay attention to the style of communication, the essence of the complaints boiled down to the lack of texture and closed statistics.

And then I thought: does anyone even consider the accuracy of forecasts?

Fire Kingdom

A quick Google turned up the ForecastAdvisor project, but it assessed forecasts exclusively for US cities, and, naturally, there were no Russian-language providers (Yandex, Hydromet, etc.).

For some time there was a MyCli.me project in RuNet, now closed. However, it had persistent problems with data collection and the rating system (selecting the best forecast) was not based on the scientific method.

In addition, I found many initiatives, for example, from OLS and lucius, but they were all limited either by time, or by city, or by provider. For example, one of the most amazing projects from slimyhorror analyzes the fulfillment of forecasts for more than 5000 days in a row! But only forecasts from the BBC are assessed and only for UK cities.

Thus, the decision was made to make our own project. It's just a matter of collecting forecasts, collecting actual weather and assessing feasibility based on a scientifically proven formula. Let's start with it.

Banana Guard

In 2009, the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia released “Manuals on short-term forecasts”. According to this guide, the forecast is considered to have come true if it differs from the actual observed temperature by no more than 3 °C in any direction. If the forecast differs from the actual weather by more than 3°, then such a forecast is considered unfulfilled (clause 7.3.1.4 of the manual).

Read more about gradation.

Theoretically, the provider could forecast the weather every day from -60 to +60 and thus obtain a 100% success rate. However, a correct gradation of the forecast is considered to be a deviation of no more than 1 degree, for example, “Daytime temperature from 2° to 4°.” Thus, a deviation of 2 degrees from the interval or 3 degrees from the value is allowed.

Weather forecasts must be assessed separately for day and night (7.2.3). The accuracy of the daily forecast is determined as the average of the accuracy values of the forecasts for the night and for the day. Assessing the success of weather forecasts for a calendar period (month, season, year, etc.) consists of calculating their average accuracy for the corresponding period (9.1.1).

Okay, it doesn’t seem difficult - we take a forecast for tomorrow (the day after tomorrow, etc.), collect data on the actual weather, and compare it separately for day and night. If

Math.abs(predict - actual) > 3
then the forecast did not come true (Pt=0%), if<= 3 то Pt=100%. Считаем среднюю оправдываемость за соответствующий период и получаем нужные данные.

dark cloud

I immediately refused to parse weather sites because... HTML parsing is not stable and this would inevitably increase the number of errors in the final statistics. Luckily, many providers provide APIs to access their forecasts. In the first stage, I added forecasts from accuweather.com, darksky.net, openweathermap.org and wunderground.com. They all provide JSON API. At the second stage, the Norwegian yr.no with XML-API, the Russian Hydrometeorological Center (I had to parse the RSS) and Yandex.Weather were added.

Today there is an agreement with foreca.com and negotiations are underway with gismeteo.ru, intellicast.com and the English metoffice. If you have friends in these projects who are ready to help with the API, write!

Increased weirdness

In theory, there should have been no problem collecting actual weather. Every major city has a weather observation station, usually in the city center, for example in Moscow it is VDNKh. National hydrometeorological services transmit data from these stations to the World Weather Watch, where it is processed and stored. Observations are transmitted as a SYNOP code every 3 or 6 hours.

In addition, every major airport has a weather observation station that transmits an aviation weather report in METAR format every hour (or half hour).

Raw SYNOP and METAR data can be found on the NOAA website; processed data on ogimet.com. It is convenient to search for the stations themselves on weatherobs.com.

However, there are several problems here. Firstly, the quality of the transmitted data - there are often typos in the reports (for example, the letter O instead of the number 0). Secondly, data stability. In 2017, Aviamettelecom stopped transmitting weather reports from more than fifty Russian airfields to the international exchange for a whole month. Thirdly, there are cities in which I simply could not find a working station. For example, in Rostov-on-Don there is no data for either station 34730 (URRR) or station 34731.

In situations like this, I use information from a private network of stations, The Weather Company (now owned by IBM), to gather actual weather.

Science rules

The result was the website Meteotrust.com
At the moment, data is collected for 10 Russian cities from 7 providers. In the near future I plan to add more cities, more providers and more periods (long-term forecasts from hydrometcenter and accuweather, forecasts for 10 days). In addition, the collection of precipitation statistics is being prepared. Judging the accuracy of precipitation forecasts is a little more difficult than temperature forecasts. There will be a separate post about this.

What are the conclusions?

Openweathermap - bottom.
Accuweather, yr.no, darksky - strong middle peasants.
Yandex and Wunderground have excellent forecasts.
The Hydrometeorological Center often competes with Yandex for first place in the quality of short-term forecasts. However, there is an assumption that with an increase in the number of cities, especially foreign ones, the overall success of the Hydrometeorological Center’s forecasts will decrease.

Good day everyone!

I think that everyone will agree with me that the weather often presents us with surprises, sometimes very unexpected ones (such as heavy rain, although just half an hour ago there was no sign of rain).

When planning your vacation, trip, or just going to work or school, you often need to find out what awaits us tomorrow, in a week - in order to take the same umbrella with you, buy something, prepare something warm, etc. d.

In this article I want to cite several sites where you can find out quite accurately about the weather for the near future (up to about 14 days). Forewarned is forearmed! So...

Note: no forecast is 100% accurate! Moreover, if it is drawn up for a period of more than a few days (everywhere there is a certain line). If the temperature is predicted more accurately, then there may be a “miss” with precipitation.

Weather forecast sites

The official website of the Russian hydrometeorological center, which has access to almost all cities of our country, the CIS, abroad, resorts (the largest cities are available in the column on the left). The Hydrometeorological Center has been predicting the weather since 1930, and as you understand, specialists with such extensive experience are among the most accurate! Although, their site does not look the most beautiful among other weather sites, but nevertheless...

By the way, in addition to the forecast, the site has an archive of forecasts, climate statistics, news and warnings about the dangers that the weather “prepares” for us...

One of the most convenient and popular weather forecast sites. What’s especially captivating is that when you go to the site, it will automatically determine your city based on your IP address and show the weather for the next 3 days (which is what most people need).

I also want to note that the forecast can be built for 3, 10, 14 days, and for a whole month. In addition to the temperature in degrees, on the site you can find out the direction and speed of the wind, pressure, precipitation and other information.

Note: if you have a website, then you can install a weather widget on it and always be aware of what awaits you.

Although this service is in English, I added it to my review. After all, his forecasts are used even by airlines (what more accurate?). True, I did not put it in first place in the article due to the absence of the great and mighty, which may somewhat scare off some users (although almost everything can be guessed from the pictures, and besides, the Chrome browser offers to translate the site into Russian).

After you visit the site, the first thing you need to do is enter your city in the transcription (search bar at the top, right). By the way, the site itself will show hints as soon as you start entering your city (example below).

By the way, the temperature is shown in several options: in degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit. Current weather is updated on the website in real time. For many cities there are several weather points for accurate results.

As for the forecast, you can find a 10-day option on the website: very convenient. In general, use it!

Forecast for 10 days on the website foreca.ru

A very interesting and unusual site (by the way, the forecasts are very accurate). It differs from the others in the presence of an hourly forecast: for each hour the temperature and probability of precipitation are indicated as a percentage. Agree, it’s convenient to find out whether it will rain today, when, and whether you need an umbrella? ☺

In general, in general, you can find out the forecast for the next 10 days: there is a short view (as in the screenshot above), and a full one.

It is also very interesting to look at the weather map in the menu on the left: you can see your city and the area around it, see how cloudiness, temperature, precipitation, pressure in this area will change over time.

A very popular and convenient site for viewing the weather for the near future (up to 6 days). The clarity is especially captivating - everything you need is shown in one plate: temperature, precipitation, how the temperature feels, pressure, wind (speed, gusts, direction), etc.

The weather forecast on the website is prepared by the UK Met Office. The site currently provides weather forecasts for 500,000 locations (there's probably yours too!).

A very colorful and unusual site with an informative presentation of the weather. First, you need to enter your city into the search bar, then you will see not only the weather forecast (shown at the bottom of the window: temperature, rain, snow, wind, etc.), but you will also be able to watch how clouds and precipitation move over the city , how and where the wind blows, etc.

Very unusual and entertaining!

Meteo news is a very useful informant about the weather: here you can find information that is often omitted on other sites. For example, in addition to temperature, precipitation, wind, you can find out sunrise and sunset, day length, moonrise and sunset, and other data.

Forecast is available for 3, 5 and 14 days. You can also get acquainted with the dynamics of the nearest hourly changes in weather conditions, get information about the climate in your area, about average temperatures at a certain time.

There is a weather archive for 48 hours: you can find out everything about it in graphs and numbers (very useful if, for example, your studies force you to keep a weather diary).

One of the best weather forecasting services, the informer is very accurate and looks nice. What captivates: the site has a choice of many languages (Russian is supported!), the site automatically determines your location (determines not only the city, but also your area!) and gives a forecast for the next 36 hours (i.e., up-to-date information).

In addition, the forecast can be obtained for 5, 10 days, for the next weekend, and for a month in advance. In general, it is very convenient.

As for the current weather: you can find out the temperature (and how it feels), wind speed, humidity, dew point, pressure, visibility (especially useful for motorists).

Yandex weather is a very popular service from the Moscow Meteorological Bureau. Moreover, I want to note that the weather forecast is quite accurate and close to reality.

When you go to the site, usually, your city is always determined automatically and 99% correctly. Yandex Weather offers you to immediately familiarize yourself with the current weather and the forecast for the coming days (see screenshot above). By selecting a specific day, you can find out the temperature, precipitation, humidity, pressure for the morning, afternoon, evening and night. In addition, you can find out whether the moon is waxing or waning now (a rather popular question among many, by the way).

In addition, on Yandex weather you can find out the usual temperature for the current location according to the climate of your area. Yandex also offers to play roulette to get the weather you want (a small thing, but funny ☺)!

Another weather forecast service from a popular search engine on the Runet. By going to the website, Mail.ru will automatically detect your city and show the current weather and forecast for the coming days. The forecast is presented in a convenient table, from which you can find out day and night temperatures, precipitation, pressure, humidity, wind direction and speed.

By the way, the service from Mail.ru inserts pictures behind the sign according to the current weather: for example, if it is raining, you will see a picture with rain (as in the screenshot above). Very clear and convenient (in my opinion).

That's all, I hope you won't go wrong with the weather now!

Let's talk about the most important thing for cyclists - the weather forecast. It’s clear that for real cycling fanatics, no weather is an obstacle to the PVD, but still, I want to ride at least without rain.

Many weather sites use the same forecast models; in the best case, particularly important regions and cities are processed by a weather forecaster. The result is not always pleasing.

Therefore, I propose to discuss who uses which weather service. Initially, I, like most Internet users, looked at the weather on gismeteo.ru, but it seems to me that its services are relevant only for a period of one day, then fantasy comes.

I looked for other options, but everything was the same - low accuracy of the forecast for the next five days, and the trends for two weeks are completely out of the question.

Then, from someone I accidentally learned about the Norwegian weather site yr.no, and that’s it - nothing else is needed. I’ve already got a bunch of friends hooked on him, only positive reviews.

This service is a government-funded project of the Norwegian Institute of Meteorology, launched in 2007.

In my opinion, it contains the most accurate long-term forecast. What I also like is that the Norwegians do not exaggerate the temperature values. Almost all forecast sites are guilty of this - they write, for example, that it will be +25, but in fact, at best, it reaches 21.

yr.no always writes accurately - the air temperature in the shade, and this really helps not to overestimate the weather on a ride or bike trip; you take a windbreaker and don’t regret it.

What’s also pleasing is the accuracy of their model in the regions, which again is a problem with many online forecasting services. yr.no shows very clearly even in the wilderness, that is, in fully automatic mode. I was here on Lake Peipus for a couple of weeks, so I tracked weather changes with an accuracy of two to three hours.

Long-term forecasts should be taken with a grain of salt, but the trends are clearly visible, even after ten days. Now here in Tallinn the Norwegians are forecasting rain starting on Monday, we’ll see. 🙂

In addition to the Norwegian site, I sometimes also use windguru, although this service is intended for those who care about the wind. For us cyclists, the wind is also not the least important thing, and changes in direction and strength are monitored very clearly.

What weather services do you use? Do you believe the forecast and make plans in accordance with them?

Friends, let's not get lost on the Internet! I suggest you receive notifications by email when my new articles are published, that way you will always know that I have written something new, please.

Hi all! There are things that modern people simply cannot do without. One of them is weather forecast. The day is filled with dozens of small and large tasks. Everything needs to be done in time, everything needs to be done. And if the conditions on the street suddenly ruin your plans, it’s not just unpleasant. This can also result in a number of unwanted problems. Therefore, I suggest you look at the best weather forecast sats in Russia and around the world in general, in order to be prepared for all bad weather, or vice versa, so as not to take a heavy umbrella on a hot day.

Our helpers - weather sites

Any modern person, using the Internet, can get a forecast for the coming hours, days, weeks, even months. But everyone has their own preferences: some weather sites - complete trust; others, in your opinion, are unreliable: their forecasts have failed you more than once. We suggest you figure out who they are, these helpers of ours.

Hydrometeorological Center: in service for 185 years

Of course you've heard of Hydrometeorological center, but not everyone knows that it functions as the World Meteorological Center. How many such centers are there in the world? There are three of them. This is Washington, Melbourne, Moscow. Seventeen departments and various laboratories monitor the processes that make up the weather. Their focus is on the atmosphere, land and ocean. In order to provide reliable information not only to the residents of the country, but also to economic structures, as well as government organizations, it is necessary to constantly update information for each federal district on its official website meteoinfo.ru, because this way the data will be available to users faster than until time passes and they will be shown in the media.

Yandex.Weather is your guide

At the service Yandex.Weather has its advantages: the forecast can be not only global, but also local. You are not interested in the weather in the region; your neighborhood and nearby streets are much more important. Meteum technology helps create a scrupulously accurate forecast in the square of your location. Where does Yandex get its data from? Foreka, a Finnish service, provides the necessary data for 228 countries. The information received is trusted not only by many organizations around the world, but also by a number of airlines, for which an accurate weather forecast is the key to safety.

Many mobile phone users have also chosen this service. The number of downloads of the official application for smartphones on Android has already exceeded 10 million.

Gismeteo.ru - simple and accessible

If you are an ordinary person and you are not concerned about the safety of hundreds of thousands of people, your own comfort is important to you, then you to this site. You can navigate easily and get all the necessary information in a matter of seconds. Users will especially appreciate the hourly weather forecast.

For your comfort, there is also a “Feels” column. It would also be a good idea to find out the wind speed and direction, as well as air humidity. The information received will allow you to fully understand the weather conditions and be prepared for any vagaries of the weather.

This site is very popular in Russia. And the Gismeteo lite application for Android has already been installed by more than 10 million people.

Weather.com: a world of trusted information

You have more confidence in foreign sites, then listen to the following recommendation: weather.com supplies the necessary information not for individual regions, but for hundreds of thousands of cities scattered around the globe. Why is this information so trusted?

Probably not the least important role is played by the fact that the site was formed on the platform of The Weater Channel, which has been providing reliable information about weather conditions for 36 years. If you do not fully speak English, in which the site provides all the necessary information, you will have the opportunity to find the Russian version of “ru.weater.com”. Although, still learn English and look up information on the Internet in the original. And if you don’t know where to start, then I recommend you, where I made a selection of the best sites for learning English for free.

In addition to the usual components, you will also learn about air humidity, probable visibility on the roads, phases of the moon, and the exact time of sunrise and sunset.

Many users consider weather.com the best site for getting weather forecasts, and for good reason. It's really very convenient.

Accuweather.com opens up new possibilities

Perhaps you trust American meteorologists more. Why not? Weather Service accuweather, created on a commercial basis, shares its information with 3 million communities scattered around the world. You can select the Russian-language menu and receive not only a reliable weather report, but, for example, very useful information about the degree of danger of ultraviolet rays.

Air Force Weather Service

By going to UK Met Office website, you will receive verified information from one of the world's oldest services. Thanks to him, already in 1861, readers of English newspapers received reliable information about weather conditions. According to user reviews, short-term forecasts are incredibly accurate and are trusted by residents of 5,000 cities scattered around the world. Whether you will join their number can only be determined by checking the accuracy of the data.

Meteotrend

Type the word Meteotrend into a search engine, and within a second you will be studying very useful information on the organization’s website ( www.meteotrend.com). So, a list of countries with the current temperature instantly displayed. One click and you will see the weather in all settlements of the selected country.

Choose a city and receive a complete wardrobe recommendation for today directly in the information column on the website. And it's not a joke. Here's an example: warm boots, woolen hat, scarf, gloves... Isn't it true that such concern looks very nice? And for a person getting ready to travel, such information will be a real find.

Nepogoda.ru - time to go to the resort

Are you going on vacation, so you don't want to go to site called "Bad weather", but in vain. First, you will find all the information you need, just like on other weather sites. But there is also a nice bonus called “Resort Weather”. A list of resort cities, Russian and foreign, will allow you to instantly find the information you are interested in. Wind, precipitation, cloudiness, humidity, pressure. You can instantly assess the whole picture and make the right decision on the place of your intended vacation.

Weather news: about the weather and more

There is nothing left to surprise the Internet user, but there is more Weather news. Just one typed word is enough and along with the weather forecast you will receive information about weather news and the environment on the portal meteovesti.ru. For example, you will find out why drop tornadoes are dangerous, where snow with insects has fallen, and whether Niagara Falls can collapse. There is so much information that it is simply impossible to tear yourself away. Heat records, rat infestation, volcano awakening. Take a look at the archive or look at photos of almond blossoms. I want to stay longer on this site.

Ventusky.com - your own weather forecaster

And here this site I was especially surprised. You can feel like a weather forecaster. Comment on everything you see on the map. There is so much information here that it is difficult to take it all in at a glance. It has everything: thunderstorms, waves, snow cover, wind animation. Learn to use the map and get real pleasure from having unique information. Why trust someone when you can use information obtained based on your own analysis.

Summarize. If you want to be aware of weather conditions, then all that remains is to choose the right path through experimentation to obtain reliable and useful information. In addition, do not forget that most of the above companies, which are concerned not only about the reliability of weather data, but also about more global problems, such as global warming or the extinction of rare animals due to climate change, are presented in mobile versions for your smartphones and tablets . With such an abundance of resources, you will always be on guard for weather conditions and their future changes.

Which weather forecasting site do you think is the best? Write your opinion in the comments. I just really care about what users choose.

Well, this is where I end my article. I hope that you found it useful and interesting. Therefore, be sure to subscribe to our public on VK so as not to miss the release of new articles. I also recommend that you subscribe to my channel on YouTube. There I talk about how not to fall for scammers and scammers on the Internet. I'm sure you'll like it.
