The history of the station "Novosibirsk-Glavny"

The Novosibirsk-main station is one of the largest stations in Russia and the largest in Siberia. During Soviet times, the building of the Novosibirsk railway station was the largest pre-war building.

The first railway station building was built in 1893 at the Ob station. In 1897, a larger wooden station building was built, with a post office, waiting rooms, and a buffet. Then a stone two-story extension was added to it in 1906, and another one in 1914. In 1909, the Ob station was renamed Novonikolaevsk. And since 1926 it became known as Novosibirsk.

In 1929, a competition was announced for the design of a railway station at the Novosibirsk-Glavny station. As a result, the project of N.G. won. Voloshinov, with the laconic architecture of the building in the style of constructivism. According to the architect's idea, the image of a steam locomotive rushing to the east was supposed to be guessed in the station building. In 1930, changes were made to the project, and in 1931, according to the modified project, the foundation of the future station was laid. Subsequently, the project was revised many times. The constructed central part of the station was created in the form of a triumphal arch, which was framed by pilasters of the Tuscan order and crowned with a large attic, hiding the outer reinforced concrete structure of the arch of the main ticket office. On January 25, 1939, the station was opened.

From 1997 to 2000, the building underwent a major overhaul. In 2005, a suburban pavilion was built to the south of the main building, which can be entered from the metro and from the station square. The station building with passenger platforms is connected by a covered pedestrian bridge. In 2011, turnstiles were installed for passage to commuter trains. A special bypass bridge was built over the railway tracks. At the same time, 4,000 people can be accommodated in the Novosibirsk-main station building. The station building is recognized as an architectural monument of regional significance, and the train schedule for Novosibirsk station is successfully observed thanks to the modern station.

Infrastructure of the station Novosibirsk-main and services

Novosibirsk-Glavny Station is a complex technical facility offering passengers a wide range of modern passenger services. The station complex consists of a passenger building, a suburban pavilion, passenger platforms, underground passages across the railway tracks, a concourse and baggage rooms.

On the ground floor of the station there is a “Service Center”, where travel documents for international and domestic trains are issued, currency is exchanged, here you can call a taxi, order a porter service, book a hotel room, use a set of office services, the Internet - more than 40 types of services. The first floor is also equipped with an electronic scoreboard displaying train schedules from Novosibirsk and other information. The passenger tunnel leads to the hall with storage rooms. On the second floor of the station there is an information and cash hall with 17 cash desks, 2 of which are information desks. Each cash desk is equipped with an automated system "Express-2". Monitors located above the ticket windows display constantly changing train availability and travel information. Using the ESU sensor unit, the passenger can independently obtain the necessary information.

The East and Central halls of the station are designed for passengers to relax; you can enter them only with train tickets. After the speaker announces the boarding of the train by the loudspeaker, the station attendant escorts passengers to the desired platform through a warm transition, the so-called concourse. There is a hotel in the East Hall of the station for transit passengers. There is a room for mother and child at the Novosibirsk-main station, a playroom is equipped, in which experienced teachers work with children.

One of the oldest railway stations in the Russian Federation. The very first urban building was the Ob station, on the basis of which, back in 1893, the full-fledged construction of the station began. In just a year, construction was completed, giving Novosibirsk a full-fledged station, though only for fifth-class passengers. Progress does not stand still, and not only workers, but also representatives of the nobility began to stay in Novosibirsk, who, as you know, preferred to travel and wait for the train to arrive in comfort, so just a few years later, in 1897, another one was completed a wooden building that already had comfortable waiting rooms, a post office and even something like a tavern. Over time, the buildings no longer accommodate all passengers and it was decided to further expand, so by 1915 several more two-story stone buildings were added. The station was renamed Novo-Nikolaevsk. Only in 1926, the station was officially named Railway Station Novosibirsk.

Story:

The construction of the Ob railway station began in May 1893, and only six months later, train traffic was opened here towards the Bolotnaya station.
In 1897, a wooden station appeared here, in which there were waiting rooms for passengers, a buffet, and a post office. In the next few years, the station was replenished with various buildings.

In 1929, passenger and freight traffic grew so much that it became necessary to build a new, more modern building of the Novosibirsk railway station. As a result, a competition was announced for the best project, which was won by N.G. Voloshinov. The project included a building made in the style of constructivism. The arched-vaulted ceiling of the station was supposed to be extended over the station tracks in the form of a concourse, where a waiting room with a restaurant and stairs to the platforms were to be located.
However, the bold project was subsequently sent for revision to the Kiev branch of Giprotrans. But after laying the foundation for a new project, changes were again made to it at the initiative of the Sibstroyput trust. The project was finalized several more times until the final version was approved.

After a directive change in the “stylistic orientation of Soviet architecture”, a competition was again announced in Novosibirsk - for the best project for the exterior decoration of the facade of the building. In the final version, the central part of the station has the composition of a triumphal arch, framed by Tuscan order pilasters and crowned with a large attic, hiding from the outside the reinforced concrete parabola of the arch of the main ticket office.

In 1997-2000, a major overhaul of the station building was carried out, in the rouselta of which the facades were updated, and the walls and floor were finished with granite and marble.

In 2005, a suburban pavilion was built to the south of the main station building. It has open access from the station square, from Shamshurina street and from the metro; a covered pedestrian bridge connects the station building with passenger platforms and Vladimirovskaya street.

In 2011, turnstiles for automatic travel control appeared at the suburban station.
