ARSENIC ANHYDRIDE (Acidum arsenicosum anhydricum). Synonyms: White arsenic, Arsenic acid, Arseni trioxydum. Heavy white porcelain-like or glassy pieces or heavy white powder. Very slowly soluble in water (68 - 80 parts), easily soluble in hydrochloric acid, solutions of caustic alkalis and carbonates alkali metals. To obtain the powder, pieces of white arsenic are moistened with 95% alcohol, carefully ground in a mortar, after which the powder is dried in air. It is sometimes used externally as a necrotizing agent for skin diseases. In dental practice it is used to necrotize the pulp. It was previously prescribed internally in pills (adults, 0.001 g per dose) for anemia, exhaustion, and neurasthenia. Higher doses for adults orally: single dose 0.005 g, daily dose 0.015 g. LECTURE No. 6

SUBJECT:Poisoning by compounds of other groups

TOXICOLOGY OF LIGHT METALS

ARSENIC AND ITS COMPOUNDS

Arsenic. Arsenic (Arsenicum), As - in the form of its natural compounds was known in ancient times. In nature, it is distributed mainly in the form of sulfur compounds: arsenic trisulfide (AS 2 S 3), known as orpiment (yellow), and realgar, arsenic disulfide (AsS 2), which has a dark red color.

Arsenic compounds are divided into two groups: 1. trivalent arsenic (arsenite)

2. pentavalent arsenic (arsenates).

PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF ARSENIC AND ITSCRITICAL CONNECTIONS

Arsenic anhydride A s 2 Oz - white powder, sparingly soluble in water, highly soluble in acids, glycerin, and alkalis. It is a toxic, potent substance and has a pronounced local and resorptive effect.

After administration of small doses (up to 1 mg/kg), arsenic stimulates hematopoiesis, enhances the growth of bone tissue, promotes fat deposition and increases the weight of the animal; The introduction of arsenic is especially effective at the recovery stage.

In toxic doses (10-15 mg/kg) it causes severe acute toxicosis.

Sodium arsenite - grayish powder or paste, soluble

in water. Has a pronounced acaricidal effect. Contains 52 % trivalent arsenic.

The consumption rate for treating plants to combat locusts is 0.5-2.5 kg/ha.

Arsenic anhydride is the basis of arsenates containing less toxic pentavalent arsenic.

Tin arsenate - powder insoluble in water and acids white, highly soluble in alkalis. Active against cestodias and nematodes of sheep, calves, pigs, chickens, geese.

Manganese arsenate - fine crystalline powder of pink color, tasteless and odorless, poorly soluble in water. Used for moniesiosis in sheep.

Calcium arsenate - light gray powder containing 50% arsenic anhydride. Well-known acaricide, insecticide, anthelmintic.

Aminarsen - white powder, poorly soluble in water and alcohol, soluble in alkalis, contains 29 percent arsenic. Used for spirochetosis of chickens and rabbits. Poisoning of animals is possible due to medical errors.

Atoxyl (sodium salt of aniline arsenic acid) - white powder, soluble in water and practically insoluble in alcohol. Used for spirochetosis in rabbits and birds, and some forms of anemia in horses.

Miarsenol - light amorphous powder of light yellow color, highly soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol and ether. Used to treat animals with trypanosomiasis in horses, paratyphoid fever in calves, and spirochetosis in chickens.

Novarsenol - yellow powder, soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol and ether. It is used for breeding disease in horses, hemorrhagic septicemia in calves, spirochetosis in rabbits, and bronchopneumonia of various etiologies.

Osarsol - white crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water and alcohol, highly soluble in alkalis, contains 27% arsenic. Widely used for swine dysentery and rabbit spirochetosis. There are frequent cases of animal poisoning with this drug.
