Guide to sau guards tiger. G.W. Tiger (P) is a Tier VIII German SPG. Detailed about the main characteristics

Other designations: Geschützwagen “Tiger” fur 17cm K72(Sf), fur 21cm Mrs 18/1(Sf) and 30,5cm GrW Sf I-606/9
; 17cm - Gerät 809, 21cm - Gerät 810, 30.5cm - Gerät 817, “Grille”

In the spring of 1942, the notorious German company Krupp received an order for the design and manufacture of a German heavy self-propelled gun, the chassis of which was used from the Tiger 2 heavy tank (at that time there was no tank itself, although the chassis was already being used with might and main for other projects of tanks and self-propelled guns, unification, all things ...). The GW "Tiger II" self-propelled gun was planned to be used for remote fire impact on the enemy at a distance of 25-26 kilometers with the help of an air spotter or an artillery and instrumental reconnaissance specialist. The self-propelled guns did not provide for serious armor protection (maximum anti-ballistic), for close combat, an MG-34 machine gun was installed in the frontal hull plate.

Wooden layout of a self-propelled gun

In January 1943, thanks to the titanic efforts of the Krupp engineers, a preliminary draft of a self-propelled gun was ready, which for the first time received the designation "Geschutzwagen Tiger" (Geschützwagen "Tiger"). The self-propelled gun was armed with a 170-mm 17cm Kanone 72 cannon, which could fire at a distance of up to 25.5 km with 68-kg shells. In parallel with this, the designers led a project to arm this self-propelled gun with a 210-mm howitzer 21cm Morser, which could fire at a distance of up to 17.3 km with 111-kilogram shells. The guns had a maximum vertical aiming angle of 65 degrees. up to -5 deg. Since the ammunition was very large, and also heavy, only 5 shells could fit inside the hull in the ammunition rack.

In a fit of "enthusiasm", the German designers proposed to install the Czech 305-mm Skoda GrW L / 16 mortar on the GW "Tiger II" self-propelled guns, however, these projects were not implemented further than the sketches.

Captured equipment captured by the Americans, among them self-propelled guns GW "Tiger II"

As for the undercarriage of the GW Tiger II self-propelled guns, it almost completely copied the undercarriage of the Tiger 2 tank, but during the design process it turned out that the undercarriage was too short for such a powerful gun, therefore, it was decided to lengthen the suspension by 3 road wheels ( i.e. 10 staggered track rollers + 1 independent rear roller). The undercarriage of the self-propelled gun was made torsion, individual. The steering wheel was at the back, the drive wheel at the front.

As conceived by the designers and the military, the GW "Tiger II" self-propelled guns were not supposed to engage in clashes with enemy armored vehicles and infantry, however, this vehicle was provided with anti-projectile armor made of homogeneous sheet armor. The body was assembled by welding. A conning tower was located at the stern of the self-propelled gun. The side and frontal part of the GW "Tiger II" hull had a booking thickness of 60 mm, the bottom - 25 mm, the roof - 40 mm. Engineers from Krupp deliberately went for such a decrease in the thickness of the armor (which was unusual for the Germans), this was done in order to save nickel and the mass of the self-propelled gun as a whole.

Wooden layout of the ACS GW "Tiger II"

Presumably, the weight of the GW "Tiger II" self-propelled gun was 60 tons. A 700-horsepower Maybach HL230P30 gasoline engine was located in front of the hull, a mechanical type transmission and a driver with a gunner-radio operator were also located there. The exhaust pipes were planned to be led out to the sides in front of the conning tower. The self-propelled artillery installation included eight crew members: a commander, a driver, a gunner-radio operator, a gunner and four shell carriers.

Since the official name of the GW “Tiger II” self-propelled guns sounded too long (Geschützwagen “Tiger” fur 17cm K72(Sf), fur 21cm Mrs 18/1(Sf) und 30,5cm GrW Sf I-606/9; 17cm - Gerät 809 , 21cm - Gerät 810, 30.5cm - Gerät 817, "Grille", the engineers preferred to call her Gerat. In modern literature and some Internet resources, “Grille” auf Pz.VIB or “Grille Königtiger” is often found, however, this is not true.

G. W. Tiger– top at level 9

Geschützwagen Tiger (from German Geschützwagen - carriage and German Tiger - tiger) is an experienced German self-propelled 170-mm howitzer. The decision to create heavy self-propelled guns for artillery support was made in June 1942. Work on the machine was carried out by Krupp. The ACS concept implied the possibility of installing four different artillery systems on one base chassis: a 170-mm 17-cm K.Mrs.Laf cannon, a 210-mm 21-cm Mrs.18 howitzer, as well as 305 mm and 420 mm Skoda super-heavy mortars (30 ,5-cm Gr.W; 40-cm s.Gr.W), in connection with which the car received a rather long official name Geschützwagen VI fuer 17-cm K.Mrs.Laf (Sf), fuer 21-cm Mrs.18 /1(Sf) and 30.5-Gr.W (Sf) I-606/9. A similar concept was the basis for the Soviet heavy self-propelled guns SU-14 (1939).

The order of studying the modules:

After the purchase, if possible (if they are open on other tanks), the FuG 12 radio station and the Maybach HL 210 P30 and Maybach HL 230 P45 engines should be installed. These engines open on the VK 3001 (H) and VK 3601 (H) tanks.
- in any case, further open the top chassis G.W. Tiger verstärkteketten. The chassis will make it possible to install all the modules and, most importantly, the top gun.
- then we put the top gun and start to feel our art for real.
- if you didn’t have engines initially, then we make our game a little more comfortable by pumping them.
- well, if there was no radio station, then we take it.
- we go to the finish line to G.W. E100

Tank pros:
+ monstrous damage
+ huge splash
+ the presence of armor-piercing shells

Tank cons:
- very long reload
- very long mix
- very small traverse angles
- poor mobility
- huge size
- flat trajectory of the projectile

Equipment:

There is nothing new on this art in terms of modules. The rammer and mixing are simply not discussed. Of all the rest, only a camouflage net can bring us benefit, and we will take it. So:
- Camouflage net
- Reinforced pickup drives
- Large caliber howitzer rammer

Crew upgrade:
There is a lot of ambiguity here. For example, many people think that disguise must be downloaded on art. For this art, as well as for the previous and next ones, disguise is not a priority, because a huge shed cannot be hidden by disguise. This is due to the fact that masking gives a bonus in the form of a coefficient from the initial value, and it is regrettably small for us. Therefore, with the first cell, I offer the following set: The commander - the sixth sense, the gunner - a smooth turn of the tower, the driver - a virtuoso, the radio operator - radio interception (although the benefits are very doubtful and you can take disguise), both loaders - disguise. The second perk we take for the entire crew is combat brotherhood. Further, whoever has not received the disguise receives it. The rest can take anything at all, since it is equally useless. The priority is still desperate.

Equipment:

Rem. a kit and a first aid kit are needed and this is not discussed. We are unlikely to burn, so we take gasoline (if possible, gold) to add at least some dynamics to our barn. Alternatively, instead of gasoline, you can take chocolate.

Tactics:
Start by choosing a position. It should be occupied taking into account the trajectory of the projectile. You must immediately come to terms with the fact that throwing is not for us. We charge for more than 40 seconds, so there will be plenty of time to take a position.
More on target selection. There are only three priorities. The first is to take out as many points of durability as possible to opponents that will be difficult for your allies to kill. We are talking about such targets as Maus, E-100, top-end anti-tank guns, as well as a number of heavily armored or especially dangerous targets. The second priority is to reduce the number of guns in the opposing team. It’s worth picking up the enemy if delay will lead to significant damage from this target, and also if you see that there is no one else to pick up the target. The third priority is targets that are guaranteed to receive full (or close to full) damage. Here we include WT auf E100, WT auf. Pz.4, as well as all the targets that are on our side, and even better - the stern.
Remember that the reload time is over 40 seconds, which means you need to work on every shot. We occasionally miss with full aiming, so we cannot afford to shoot without full aiming either. Trying to catch a firefly in motion is a rather hopeless business with our characteristics, I do not recommend doing this (although sometimes this business needs to be done).
We've been mixing for a very long time, which means we can't afford to remix often. In this case, you need to know the maps and the likely places where the enemy will appear. It's worth visiting these places in advance. The advice is relevant for most self-propelled guns (for those without a rotating turret) - secure the chassis (default is the X button), because going beyond the horizontal aiming angles is fraught with loss of information, and if you are leading the target, you will miss the opportunity to shoot. This is especially true for the GWT due to very small GL and long mixing.
At the end of the guide, I post a video in which I get the class badge "Master" for 5 shots on this machine:

Geschützwagen Tiger(from German Geschützwagen - carriage and German Tiger - tiger) - experienced German self-propelled 170 mm howitzer. The decision to create heavy self-propelled guns for artillery support accepted in June 1942. Work on the machine was carried out by Krupp. The ACS concept implied the possibility of installing three different artillery systems on one base chassis: a 170 mm 17 cm Kanone 72 cannon, a 210 mm Morser howitzer and a 305 mm Skoda GrW L / 16 mortar, in connection with which the vehicle received a rather long official name Geschützwagen "Tiger" fur 17 cm K72(Sf), fur 21 cm Mrs 18/1(Sf) and 30.5 cm GrW Sf I-606/9. A similar concept was the basis of the Soviet heavy self-propelled guns Su-14.

Research and leveling GW-Tiger

GW-Tiger can be researched after Gw-Panther for 166,000 XP

By purchasing the GW-Tiger self-propelled guns, you go to the 7th level of the German artillery tree. To start the game on the GW-Tiger with maximum efficiency, install previously researched modules on it. These can be a FuG 12 radio station and engines: Maybach HL 210 P 30 and Maybach HL 230 P 45, which are being studied on VK 3001 (H) and VK 3601 (H). First of all, it is recommended to study the chassis of the GW-Tiger-Ketten Ausf. B for 16940 experience. It will increase the carrying capacity and allow you to install all the necessary modules, as well as the top gun. The research can then be directed towards the 21cm mortar Mrs 18/1(Sf) for 67500 experience. This is one of the best tier 7 SPG guns in the game. Its projectiles have splash damage of 7 squares around the point of impact and deal significant damage to heavy vehicles.

Combat effectiveness of the GW-Tiger

GW-Tiger- very efficient ACS. This is due both to low maneuverability and a long reload time, but to a greater extent, to the fact that the Gw-Panther’s predecessor art has a completely different effective play style, so you will actually have to learn how to play again. On the other hand, if you understand this tank, learn to reduce in advance, change position in time, then the enemies will be unpleasantly surprised by their losses from each of your shots.

Benefits of GW-Tiger

  • High damage shells 210 mm mortars
  • Large HE shell fragmentation radius
  • High (for self-propelled guns) strength

Disadvantages of GW-Tiger

  • The large size of self-propelled guns complicate camouflage
  • Low maneuverability
  • Very small traverse angles
  • Long mixing

Playing style GW-Tiger very strongly reminiscent of Grille - the first thing that catches your eye is a small horizontal aiming angle, which contrasts sharply with the angle of the GW-Panther. We have to get used to this inconvenience again. However, unlike the Grill, which had good, but rather average damage, the GW-Tiger easily destroys any tank up to level 8 (and often 9th) level from one hit, and inflicts critical injuries on level 10 tanks.

The history of the creation of GW-Tiger

The chassis of the PzKpfw VIB Tiger II heavy tank was chosen as the base chassis for the self-propelled guns, which was somewhat redesigned - lengthened with the addition of one more roller. Maybach HL 230 P 30 engine, 650 hp located in front of the case. The design maximum speed of the self-propelled guns reached 35 km / h. Booking protected only from shrapnel and machine-gun fire.

Weight ACS GW-Tiger was supposed to reach 58 tons, the crew of the car included 7 people. Initially, it was planned to provide the possibility of circular fire, however, further studies showed the unrealism of such a requirement, as a result, the horizontal guidance angle was 5 degrees in both directions. If necessary, the gun could be detached from the chassis and moved back to a special rotating platform that provides all-round firing.

German self-propelled artillery installation of the eighth level. It has monstrous firepower and a large fragmentation radius (due to the 210 mm howitzer), as well as a huge dispersion, long aiming and low mobility.

The predecessor of the self-propelled guns G.W. tiger.

Research and leveling

ACS G.W. Tiger (P) is being researched on G.W. Panther for 113,600 experience.

  • The 21 cm Mörser 18/1 gun is a top-end gun that is lighter than stock and does not require suspension replacement
  • Chassis G.W. Tiger (P) verstärkteketten - improves agility and dynamics
  • Engine 2 x Porsche Typ 101/1 - research at will, minimum increase
  • FuG 12 radio - should be inherited from G.W. panther.

combat effectiveness

G.W. Tiger (P) turned out to be quite slow, so you won't be able to get away from fireflies like Chaffee. Therefore, it is worth looking for such places on the maps where we will not be exposed at the very beginning of the battle.

The only chance to escape from a firefly is to hit it with direct fire (“one shot”) or hit it with a close splash. The gun is very powerful, but at the same time, a monstrous dispersion (0.88) and an extremely long aiming time do not allow us to shoot at fast targets.

Therefore, it is worth aiming at slow heavy tanks. For self-propelled guns, we have unexpectedly good frontal armor. We have a Tiger Porsche base, and a 100mm forehead. This means that upon detection, we will be able to repel a couple of enemy shells.

Advantages:

  • the highest one-time damage among self-propelled guns of its level;
  • good communication range;
  • decent frontal armor;
  • a good radius of fragmentation from a high-explosive fragmentation projectile.

Disadvantages:

  • huge dimensions;
  • huge dispersion of the gun;
  • small angles of horizontal aiming;
  • poor mobility;
  • low rate of fire;
  • open cabin.

Crew

  • Combat Brotherhood will increase the characteristics of the tank.
  • Camouflage will increase the invisibility of the machine.
  • The Eagle Eye + Radio Interception combo will give you a 5% vision boost.
  • The combination Smooth Turret Turn + Smooth Ride will allow you to spend less time on mixing when moving and turning the turret.
  • The sixth sense will help determine if the tank is detected or not.
  • The king of off-road will increase mobility on soft ground.
  • Desperate will increase DPM in heated fights.
  • Intuition will help you change shells faster.
  • Contactless ammo rack will increase the strength of the ammo rack.
  • Virtuoso will slightly improve maneuverability.
  • The repeater will slightly improve the radios of allies.

Equipment

  • The rammer will slightly speed up reloading.
  • Camouflage net will increase the invisibility of the machine.
  • Reinforced aiming drives will speed up the convergence of the gun.

Equipment

The equipment is standard - Repair kit, First aid kit, Fire extinguisher, but if necessary, to increase the dynamics, the fire extinguisher can be replaced with 100-octane gasoline or 105-octane gasoline.

Ammunition

The main projectiles are high-explosive fragmentation.
