How to sew a simple children's sundress

Hello everyone and Nina Kuzmenko with you! Despite the fact that it is still winter outside, today I will touch on a completely non-winter topic. Today I will tell you how to sew the simplest dress for a girl in Russian style.

I have already told many times that I have no special education and that I am a self-taught seamstress, but, nevertheless, I sew various simple things for my daughter. I share these things with you friends who, like me, do not know how to cut and sew at all.

Today I will tell you how to sew a Russian-style sundress with your own hands. This sundress took a minimum of costs and in my plans there is an idea to sew several such sundresses for the summer. Why not. I will buy a little different fabrics, change the cuts and decorations a little, and my daughter’s wardrobe will diversify with bright summer sundresses.

I confess right away that sewing a summer sundress for a girl of 3 years old is not at all difficult. And age, by the way, does not play a role.

We ourselves sew a sundress for a girl a master class

A sundress can be sewn from an old mother's dress, there is enough fabric there, but I still decided to sew a sundress for my daughter from a new fabric. Since I am not a professional seamstress, I bought a lot more fabrics than I should, so I will eventually sew another thing for my daughter, and then I will also share patterns and work with you.

Sundress in Russian style for girls

As you remember, I am not a professional seamstress, but just like that, I learned how to scribble evenly and that's it. I think that I am not alone and my work will help many to cope with the task.

My fabric is really bright, it gives the outfit a real Russian style.

In order to make a pattern for the dress, I needed a bar of soap, needles and scissors. Soap, by the way, can be replaced with ordinary chalk. If your fabric is light, then take darker chalk. Needles can be replaced with pins. They are needed so that when the fabric is folded in half, it does not slip and does not move out of place.

I advise you to choose sharp scissors, I have this special case, which are stored in the organizer for threads, there is also a pocket for scissors.

And so, I tell you how to make a dress in the Russian style for a girl, a pattern.

First, take our fabric, fold it in half. Now we cut off the edges with needles or pins, so to speak, we fix it so that it does not move. After that, I took a baby blouse and circled it, adding 4 cm on each side.

I drew the top straight, without a neckline, and added another 11 cm to the bottom. I took 11 cm from my calculation, because if you add this length to the blouse, then the daughter's sundress will be just knee-deep. Do not forget that there will be a seam at the bottom, so throw on another 2 cm. In total, I added 13 cm downwards.

If you skillfully handle the sewing meter and know how to take measurements of the waist and hips, then you can use this method, but it’s easier for me to circle the thing and make a pattern on it.

In the same way, I sewed a dress from a shirt for my daughter.

A little later, I will provide another option for a shirt dress, so come visit, you will not regret it.

Well, I drew a pattern for a dress in the Russian style, it remains only to cut it out. Look, I drew the pattern close to the fold of the fabric, so I will only have one seam on the side. You can do it on two different pieces of fabric, there's nothing to worry about.

Remember, scissors must be sharp. We cut out our pattern, and we get such an incomprehensible piece. But soon this pattern will turn into a beautiful summer sundress for a 3-year-old girl.

The next thing I did was take yellow sewing thread to match the dress and thread the sewing machine with it. We check how the machine scribbles on unnecessary trimming of fabric and if everything is fine, then we get down to business. I swept the edges of my Russian-style sundress for a girl so that they would not bloom. I did this using the zigzag sewing function. See how I did it.

When our edges have already been put in order and do not promise to bloom, the sundress should be brought to the end. As you can see, I did not make a neckline, therefore, we simply tuck the edges and sew. I twisted 3 cm.

The next thing I did was tuck 1 cm in the sleeves and stitched. Don't worry if the fabric is a little stretched somewhere. As a result, everything will be steamed with an iron and smoothed out.

We sew two halves of our sundress, but I need to sew one side and take the bottom of the sundress. My bright sundress for the girl is almost ready. The last thing to do is tuck the bottom of the sundress and sew.

If you are not very good with a sewing machine, then I advise you to first take an ordinary needle, but not with a yellow thread, and pre-make the seams.

So, in principle, I told you how to sew the simplest sundress for a girl in the Russian style. It remains only to decorate it, which we will do. Now I will tell you how to decorate a sundress in the Russian style.

How to decorate a sundress in the Russian style

A Russian-style sundress is beautiful in itself, but still, I want to give some kind of zest. This time I decided not to invent much and get by with the standard scheme.

If you remember what Russian-style sundresses look like, then your question of how to decorate a sundress will disappear by itself. Ribbons have always been the main decoration, so I decided to simply decorate with a ribbon. For this, I used a green rep ribbon. To decorate a sundress, I bought a meter of tape and 20 cm I have left.

The rep ribbon itself is dense and durable, so to decorate the sundress, I refused silk and satin.

The rep ribbon was simply stitched with a double seam down the sundress.

As you can see, it is not at all difficult to sew a summer sundress for a girl of 3 years old.

Well, here is the rep ribbon in place, it remains to make the final touch and pull the satin ribbon into the seam at the neck. It is this tape that will hold the entire sundress. See how great it looks. It is not at all difficult to make such a Russian-style sundress with your own hands.
