History

For outstanding achievements in the training of teaching staff in 1945, by the Decree of the Government of Ukraine, the institute was named after the scientist-teacher - Konstantin Dmitrievich Ushinsky, and in 1970 this university (HEI) was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Ukraine.

On September 29, 1994, by the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, on the basis of the Odessa State Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushinsky, the South Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after K.D. ).

In 2005, the university was included in the State Register of Scientific Institutions that are supported by the state, and in 2006 the university received membership in the Eastern European Association of Universities (EEUN), and Rector A. Ya. Chebykin was appointed coordinator of this organization from Ukraine.

According to the rating of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the university is one of the three leaders among higher educational institutions of Ukraine in the pedagogical and humanitarian profile. Over the years of its existence, about 100 thousand specialists of various specialties have been trained and improved their skills within its walls, of which more than 2000 have become honored figures in various fields of science, culture, education and sports, as well as excellent students of education in Ukraine.

In 2009, the university was given the status of a national by decree of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko.

Current state

The university is accredited in full according to the IV level of accreditation and trains teachers on a multi-stage system of bachelor, specialist, master.

The Rector of the University is Doctor of Psychology, Professor, full member of the APS of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine - Aleksey Yakovlevich Chebykin.

The main goal of the university is to train qualified specialists to provide the educational system of the Southern region with teachers, educators, psychologists, etc.

The structure of the university includes seven institutions: arts; physics and mathematics; physical culture and rehabilitation; psychology; languages ​​of the world; primary and humanitarian-technical education; preschool and special education; faculties: artistic and graphic; music education, physical and mathematical; physical education; physical rehabilitation; psychological education; historical and philosophical; foreign languages; Ukrainian philology; primary education; preschool pedagogy and psychology; the preparatory department and the faculty of postgraduate education, the Odessa Pedagogical College; Belgorod-Dniester Pedagogical College; Baltic Pedagogical College; Odessa professional lyceum of the service sector, Baltic and Kremenchug educational and consulting centers; Sevastopol educational and consulting center, Methodological center for artistic and aesthetic education of children and youth; more than 40 gymnasiums, schools, preschool institutions of the region, which form the pedagogical complex and make up its experimental sites. The University trains specialists in 7 directions in 18 specialties. The contingent of students is almost 7 thousand people (of which 3391 are full-time students, 3239 are part-time students). 3354 students study at the expense of the state budget (full-time education - 2520, correspondence - 834), at the expense of legal entities and individuals - 3274 students (full-time education - 871, correspondence - 2403).

489 teachers work at 39 departments, as well as scientists invited from foreign countries, institutes of the National Academy of Sciences and APS of Ukraine.

Scientific schools of Academician A. M. Bogush, Academician A. Ya. Chebykin, Corresponding Member of the APS of Ukraine R. Yu. Martynova, Professors A. R. Gokhman, D. S. Arov, G. I. Khmelyuk, G. M. Gubreeva, A. Yu. Kiva, established at the university, widely known in Ukraine and abroad for their achievements in the field of pedagogy, psychology, physics, and mathematics. These schools are internationally recognized. Within the framework of these schools, postgraduate students are trained in 37 specialties, doctoral students in 9. The university has three specialized academic councils for the defense of dissertations in 7 specialties. In recent years, 13 doctoral and 151 master's theses have been defended. Scientific developments are carried out in fruitful cooperation with scientists from the USA, Canada, Israel, France, the Netherlands, Moldova, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Russia within the framework of joint agreements, projects and support of funds, programs, in particular, Renaissance, INTAS, CDRE, DAAD , at the expense of state budget financing and the university's own funds. Every year, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, on the basis of expertise, determines 3-5 scientific developments of university scientists that are world-class. University scientists are actively involved in the implementation of state programs of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the APS of Ukraine, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Odessa Regional State Administration (“Regional Initiative”). The University has a strategic development plan, which provides for the optimization of scientific research topics in order to solve urgent problems related to the training of a modern teacher, the opening of new specialized academic councils with the right to defend dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Science. The University has passed certification on scientific and scientific and technical activities and received the highest level of category "A" and is recognized as the best in this direction among the pedagogical universities of Ukraine. The University maintains constant relations with the academic institutions of the National Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, leading universities on the basis of 20 cooperation agreements.

The university is accredited and by the decision of the Collegium of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is included in the State Register of Educational Institutions of Ukraine with a license for the right of educational activities at the IV level of accreditation.

Institute of World Languages

At the beginning of st. Staroportofrankovskoy (d. 2/4) in the 90s of the XIX century. there was a complex of premises of the former People's School, the Jubilee Canteen, the Day Orphanage, built according to the project of the architect Yu.

An architectural monument of the first half of the 20th century. is also the building of hostel No. 1 of the university, built according to the project of architects F. A. Troupyansky, N. M. Kanevsky, M. A. Kats in 1937-1939.

The main building of the university occupies the building on the street. Staroportofrankovskaya, 26, which houses the administration and the Institute of Physics and Mathematics. The building of the main building was built in 1896 by the architect D. E. Mazyrov. At that time, the Second Men's Gymnasium was located here. The following students studied in this building: the outstanding scientist, academician, Hero of the Soviet Union Otto Yulievich Schmidt (1901-1907), the famous Ukrainian poet Stepan Ivanovich Oleinik (1929-1933), the Ukrainian poet and journalist D. P. Nadein (studied in 1929-1933 and worked until 1941), military figure and writer, Hero of Socialist Labor, General of the Army S. K. Tsvigun. On the facade of the main building of the university there are memorial plaques to its graduates - Heroes of the Soviet Union - Anatoly Yakovlevich Kovalenko, Vladimir Stepanovich Morgunenko, Vasily Petrovich Musin. On the second floor of the main building, there used to be the Nicholas Church, which was built into the building of the Second Men's Gymnasium and consecrated on September 28, 1889. In the middle of the 20th century, the third floor was completed in the building of the main building of the university.

University academic campus "Fontansky", located on the street. Fontanskaya Road, 4, includes the territory and buildings of the Institute of Psychology, the Institute of Physical Culture and Rehabilitation, the Institute of Arts, as well as the Department of Retraining of Personnel of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education and Work with Foreign Citizens. The specified educational and scientific divisions of the university are located in the premises of the buildings of the former Sergiev artillery cadet school, erected after 1913 under the guidance of military engineer P. E. Koshlich. On the territory of the academic campus there is a monument to the valor of Russian soldiers - a metal fence made from the barrels of battery guns that participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878, cast at the Obukhov plant in St. Petersburg (architect B. Eduards, 1914).

The Institute of Preschool and Special Education, the Faculty of Postgraduate Education and Work with Foreign Citizens of the University today occupy the premises of the building on the street. Nishchinsky, 1, namely the previously built St. Alexander Church at the Institute of Noble Maidens, the foundation stone of which was laid by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna in 1828.

South Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after K. D. Ushinsky is one of the oldest educational institutions in Ukraine and the first pedagogical one in the South of our state.

The university originates from the Pedagogical Institute, which was opened in Odessa at the Richelieu Lyceum, the charter of which was approved on May 2, 1817 by Emperor Alexander I and officially issued by the St. Petersburg Printing House of the Department of Public Education.
