How to clear downloaded applications. Removing standard pre-installed Android applications

A smartphone or tablet based on the Android system should not freeze, reboot or turn off without the user’s knowledge. How to deal with intrusive standard Android applications that launch and work without the knowledge of the smartphone owner? It's not that difficult.

The essence of the problems that arise when operating a mobile device with Android

Choosing an Android smartphone or tablet is only half the battle. But the owner of such a device is faced with Android applications and components that are absolutely unnecessary to him. These applications cause a number of problems:

From preinstalled Android applications often needed are:

  • "Email",
  • "Browser",
  • "Telephone",
  • SMS/MMS (“Messages”),
  • "Downloads"
  • "Camera",
  • "Settings",
  • "Engineering menu",
  • Play Market,
  • SIM menu,
  • "Contacts",
  • FM radio,
  • "Google Settings"
  • "Watch",
  • "Tasks",
  • "Music",
  • "Video Player"
  • "Backups (Google Drive)",
  • "Organizer"
  • "Calendar",
  • "File Manager",
  • "Dictaphone",
  • "Weather",
  • "Navigation".

Most of the standard, pre-installed Android applications are actively used by the user, but some only take up space

The manufacturer and/or distribution company can install other Android applications, for example, Skype, Google Mail, browser Google Chrome(an alternative to the system browser), OK Google (Google voice search), “Movie Studio” and its own applications.

Operators cellular communication develop their own applications for Android. Thus, the mobile operator Beeline includes the My Beeline program in its default applications. If smartphones or tablets are sold by the MTS company, these are the applications “Where are the children”, “Second memory”, “ Personal Area", "Direct Transfer" and others designed for easy control additional services on the MTS SIM card number. In case of operator Yota- This is the Yota application. It is very easy to discover these applications - each of them has the branding of the operator company. These "secondary" applications can be easily removed without using Root access - even if they were installed by default before the device was put on display at the point of sale.

Is it possible to remove Android system apps?

To do this, you will need Root rights - the ability to not only read, but also write in Android system folders. By default, the system/app folder, which contains the files of all installed applications, is not writable.

There are more than a dozen Android applications that allow you to get Root access with one touch - among them are Easy Rooting Toolkit, Gingerbreak, HTC Quick Root, RootExplorer, SuperOneClick, VISIONary, Unlock Root, Unrevoked, z4root, etc. Which ones are suitable for your smartphone or tablet model - a test of each of them will show.

The RootExplorer application allows you to change the access level for system folders by setting the Read/Write attribute for them. After this, the user will be able to create, edit, rename, move and delete files within the system/app application folder. RootExplorer is available in both Play Market, and as a separate APK file.

Which apps should you remove first?

Note. The list has removed applications whose removal is questionable: it could negatively affect the operation of the Android OS and your smartphone.

How to delete an application: step-by-step instructions

So, you have received Root access to all folders in the internal memory, including system ones, and you can now do whatever you want with built-in Android applications.

Problems encountered when uninstalling stock Android applications

When deleting applications, you need to remove not only APK files, but also files of the same name with the ODEX extension. Removing the ODEX description of any application allows you to get rid of unnecessary entries in the registry of the Android operating system, thereby having a beneficial effect on the speed of your smartphone. The fact is that when Android starts, the entire registry is loaded into RAM and works “all the way” in full force, and when turned off or rebooted, the Android system saves the data to the internal flash memory of the smartphone.

Before deleting any system Android application, it is recommended to disable it (“freeze”) and continue using the smartphone. If something goes wrong, other applications stop running, they begin to freeze, or the Android operating system malfunctions, then this application should not be deleted, but rather “unfrozen.”

Do not try to delete the “Phone”, “Messages”, SIM menu, “Settings”, “Navigation” and “File Manager” applications - this is the “backbone” of the Android operating system and your device, without which it will lose its value. Otherwise, you will have to reflash the smartphone and start the process of “cleaning” the Android system all over again.

After deleting unnecessary Android applications, information about them remains in other system Android files, located in the “/system/lib” and “/data/dalvik-cache” folders. The first one cannot be touched - this may lead to the smartphone not working. The second one is cleaned with full reset(hard reset) Android.

As with everyone third party applications, you need to be careful with SystemApp Remover - it is advisable to do it before deleting any application backup copy on the SD card, otherwise you may damage the Android firmware. System applications, on which the operation of Android processes and services directly depend, require extreme care. And although “reflashing” is not particularly difficult, think about whether it is worth taking this very delicate matter to extreme measures?

Hasty and thoughtless deletion can irreversibly damage the operation of the smartphone: SMS will not be sent or calls will be made/received, access to wireless networks will be lost. Wi-Fi networks and gadgets with Bluetooth, the Android operating system will restart cyclically or “freeze” upon startup, etc.

How to get back deleted Android system apps

Before deleting, make a backup copy of the Android applications you are deleting. Must be copied not only APK files, but also ODEX files corresponding to all applications being removed. Let's look at saving information and user data using the Titanium Backup tool as an example. Naturally, Root rights should already be available on your smartphone.

  1. Install and run Titanium Backup, assign it superuser rights.

Share your system folder with Titanium Backup

  2. Open the "Backups" tab. The program will show which Android system applications you can copy.

    Go to the backups tab

  3. Select the properties of the list of Android applications by which it will be shown to you.

Sort the list of applications by one of the main criteria

  4. Open the action bar above the selected app by tapping its name. Press the “Freeze!” button.

Click on the freeze key to create a backup

  5. To save the application, click "Save". Open each application and save a copy of it. This way, you will be protected from accidentally deleting applications, without which the Android system may perform noticeably worse.
  6. To unlock startup and operation this application Android, repeat all steps. Only instead of the “Freeze” key there will be a “Unfreeze” key.
  7. To restore a deleted application, run Titanium Backup again, sort the list of applications by the availability of their backup copies and restore each of them individually (the “Restore” button).
  8. You can save all applications in one go. To do this, open the tool for creating a full “system” copy of Android in the Titanium Backup program. Select "Back up all system data." If you want to copy your applications as well, select the “Back up all user software and system data” option.

Back up all applications and system data

  9. If you do delete some system applications, you may need to restore them. Run the Titanium Backup recovery tool.

Recover all apps that were deleted

  10. Select "Restore all system data". If you also deleted custom applications but want to restore them too, select “Restore missing software and all system data.”

How to remove all unnecessary Android system applications at once

So, through experiments on “freezing” applications, you have compiled a list of unnecessary Android system “software” that reduces the performance of your smartphone. You are now sure exactly which applications you don’t need, but you don’t want to delay the issue of cleaning the Android system from unnecessary system junk. Are you tired of wandering through backup programs and performing actions on each application? The time has come to act quickly and decisively. In addition to Root access, you need any file manager on your PC or on your smartphone itself.

  1. If you operate directly from the smartphone itself, open the standard Android file manager. The APK files of the applications being deleted are shown first.
  2. Go through the list of the system/app folder and remove all applications that bother you. If you know exactly the names of the files you need, use the file manager search.

With File Manager you can remove all the apps you don't need

Components that are components Android operating system and marked with a web address in a “mirror” image of the form com.android.<ресурс>, or having an icon in the form of a green Android robot - cannot be deleted. Choose others that do not have this signature, with normal names that match the names of the programs that need to be removed, for example, Clock 2.2.5. The result of inept intervention is collapse Android firmware, requiring a complete software restoration of the smartphone. In this case, only specialists from the Android Shop service center, which is located in every major city, will help.

Removing debris from the device is also not particularly difficult.

Video: cleaning Android from garbage, detailed instructions

The right measures will help protect your Android system from sudden losses built into it software, will insure you against failures in the operation of your smartphone. In addition, the internal memory of the device will become more spacious, after rebooting the smartphone, the Android system will work faster, battery consumption will decrease and Internet traffic consumption will decrease - the benefits with which you will be rewarded for your experience and correct actions.

Are standard procedures. They can be performed by any user who is at least a little familiar with the operating system itself, but in cases with standard utilities and built-in programs, deleting conventional methods impossible.

The fact is that the manufacturer sews them into the “body” of the operating system, which, as is known, can only be accessed by experienced users. But there is still an opportunity to “demolish” unnecessary software or services. This will free up more space for the programs you really need, and will make working with the gadget much more convenient.

Removing system applications cannot be done with a “clean” OS. It is secure by default, and ordinary users are prohibited from accessing system files. Permission can only be obtained with special rights. They are called root rights. Moreover, they must be complete and not partial. Otherwise, the deletion action will not be possible.

Each gadget has its own programs that provide root rights, but among them the following universal applications can be distinguished:

  • Framaroot.
  • Root Explorer.
  • Root App Remover.

In addition to one of these programs, you need to have an explorer installed on your gadget that can give you access to the file system.

Snap to conductor

To delete files, you need to provide root access to the explorer at the very beginning. Step by step, using the ES Explorer program as an example, it looks like this:

  1. Install and launch Explorer.
  2. Swipe right to open the menu.
  3. Tap on the “Tools” item.
  4. Next, select “Root Explorer”.
  5. After this, a window will pop up in which you must provide the conductor with “Superuser” rights with your consent.
  6. Next, another window will pop up. In it you need to specify the item “Connect as R/W”.
  7. In the drop-down menu, set all checkboxes to “RW” and confirm the action.

Conductor permissions have been granted.

In File Manager this procedure is even simpler. Here you need to select “Settings” in the menu, then find “Root Explorer” and check the box next to it, confirm the request for Superuser and you can delete what you don’t use.

Procedure for removing unnecessary applications

Before uninstalling system applications in, it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the following tips:

  1. The search for all standard programs should be carried out in the folder at /system/app. This will make finding installation locations a little easier.
  2. To gain access, you must install a special application that will provide root rights and link it to Explorer.
  3. Be sure to think a few times before you start uninstalling. In some cases, seemingly insignificant applications may be responsible for the operation of necessary and important services.
  4. If you don't need programs from Google, of which there are quite often a large number of, then they can be deleted without hesitation. But under no circumstances should services be demolished.

Let's proceed directly to the removal.

First, find the /system/app folder. Go into it and delete apk files that have the same name as not necessary programs. Together with them, you must delete the file of the same name with the .odex extension. This completes the entire procedure. The programs will be completely removed from the registry and memory of your smartphone or tablet.

Removing preinstalled ones, as can be seen from the method described above, is not difficult. But despite its simplicity, only you are responsible for all actions, and there is something to harm there. For example, by accidentally deleting a service, you can completely lose wireless transmission data, so be careful and think a hundred times before uninstalling.

Advantages and disadvantages

Having grouped all the above information, we can highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the procedure for removing “hard-wired” programs.

Advantages:

  1. A large amount is saved random access memory in case the programs that need to be removed are constantly running.
  2. Expanding memory for installing useful applications.
  3. Complete replacement of standard software with applications that are more convenient and functional.
  4. If you remove unnecessary applications, you can significantly expand your knowledge of the work and structure of this OS.

Flaws:

  1. Very often, uninstalling unnecessary programs can lead to inadequate operation of the gadget.
  2. Without complete software, the operating system may lose a large number of functions.
  3. If you remove built-in Android applications, this may also affect the operation of some services, for example, a refusal to send SMS, etc. may occur.

Low-quality software for granting root rights comes across very often. It causes applications and services to display incorrectly, and you may uninstall useful ones by mistake.

Warning

All users who decide to remove built-in standard ones need to mandatory figure out what can be “demolished” and what cannot, because there is a high probability of further defective operation of the device if important system programs are affected.

The user of a new Android device, regardless of manufacturer, discovers pre-installed programs that he will never use, but cannot remove. In this material, we will tell you how to remove unnecessary applications on Android in order to rid the system of useless “garbage”.

Types of Applications

OS Android, in the form in which you receive it on your new device, contains applications that can be divided into several large groups:

  1. Custom. Everything is clear with this category. It includes programs that are installed and used by the device user. They can be removed, updated, or reinstalled at any time.
  2. Manufacturer installed or factory installed. Present at the time of purchase of the device. The user can update them, but cannot delete them without root rights.
  3. System. These include Google services and standard Android programs. Applications in this category cannot be deleted without risk of damage operating system devices.

Root

The term root or superuser came to Android from Linux. In this OS, this is an account whose owner has the rights to perform any operations, including with system partitions. There are more than 30 ways to obtain administrative rights on Android. They differ depending on the device manufacturer, installed processor and even OS version. On smartphones of the same brand, for Android 5.0 and Android 6.0 these can be completely different procedures. For example, for Meizu MX 4Pro, which runs on Android 4.4.2, it all comes down to a simple registration on the manufacturer’s website, during which you accept an agreement about responsibility for your actions.

For this reason, we will not dwell on obtaining root rights, implying that you will find a way for your device. We have a separate article for this.

Required programs

It's painless to remove built-in applications; it's safer to use third-party programs. You can download them from the Google Play store after receiving administrative access to the device.

ES Explorer

After installation, to ensure full access to the smartphone’s file system, you will need to enable root explorer in the settings.

The next step is to directly remove interfering applications. Let's use a file manager with administrative rights to go to the system partition /system/app. It stores all installed programs in the form of apk files.

A long press will bring up an additional menu at the bottom of the screen and a selection position next to application icons. At this stage, using administrative rights, you can remove previously uninstallable programs, including those related to Google services.

The system will warn you that these actions are irreversible. By confirming your choice, you will use your root rights. Any action performed using them is perceived by the OS as unconditionally correct, so be careful and remove truly “unnecessary” applications.

This program can not only clean the system, but also remove standard applications on Android after you give it the appropriate access. The choice fell on CCleaner due to the fact that it has versions for all popular operating systems and is familiar to users. The program has the ability to clear the software cache and batch uninstall.

Using the built-in application manager, you can disable or remove them as you wish.

When working with system services, you will receive a warning. Any program that uses root access when working with Android-related files will warn you to be careful.

Warnings issued by the system provide the time necessary to convince you that the actions being taken are correct. With the ability to uninstall applications that are not otherwise uninstallable, the user must be careful and careful not to cause breaking changes.

Another free manager, specially created to work with the system after obtaining root rights. Its main purpose, unlike previous programs in our review, is to remove applications built into the device by manufacturers.

As you can see, Jumobile's functionality allows you to perform all types of operations. By moving built-in applications to the memory card, you can free up space on your device without deleting them.

An attempt to remove Facebook Lite pre-installed on the system raises a familiar warning about a possible violation of the integrity and stability of the system.

A useful feature implemented by Jumobile developers is the ability to batch work with deleted files. The selection can be made alphabetically or by installation date in the system, as is more convenient for the user. By checking the boxes for the program to be uninstalled, you confirm that you understand the consequences of the actions being performed and clear the device of the “garbage” in it in one click.

Finally

The ability to clear your smartphone of bonuses imposed by manufacturers is always present, in every version of Android, on a device of any brand. The owner's main concern will be obtaining root access and choosing the program with which these actions will be performed.

Let us remind you that obtaining root access is considered by manufacturers as an action that removes the device from warranty service. No one will refuse repairs if the protective glass on a rooted phone is broken, but if the malfunction is a consequence of the fact that native applications or services have been removed from the device, the case will not be considered under warranty. Therefore, before performing changes or modifications to the smartphone software, make sure that this will not harm the operation of the operating system.

Much to my surprise, many people still don’t know how to remove applications from tablets running Android OS. But such things are written in the instructions, by the way. I will tell you three ways to remove applications from your tablet. I already talked about it in another article. Let's consider removing both regular applications, which we installed ourselves, and standard system ones, which are not so easy to remove.

The first way is through the application manager

The most standard one, and which everyone uses, is through the application manager in Android itself. Go to settings -> applications. And you see a list of programs installed on the device. Select what you want to delete and click on the “delete” button.

If a message suddenly appears stating that the application is in use, click the adjacent “force stop” button, and then delete it. Helps for removal regular applications, which we installed ourselves.

The second way is using third-party applications

Using special applications. For example Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, SystemApp Remover. All such applications require ! You install one of the applications, launch it, and then delete whatever you want through the built-in application manager. This way you can remove applications built into the system or firmware. By the way, many sophisticated file managers have similar functionality.

The third way is through Google Play

Through the Google Play store. It's funny, but many people don't even realize that through the official store you can not only install, but also remove installed applications. To do this, go to the additional menu -> my applications. And again you see the list. Then you know what to do: select the program, its page in the store opens. Only instead of the “install” button there will be “uninstall”. Suitable for removal applications installed by the user.

Important point!

When you delete an application, it doesn't always (almost never) delete itself completely. After it, files with settings or cache (if this is a game) remain. Therefore, be sure to go through the files after deleting and manually remove the “tails”.

And you know how it happens. You run out of space, remove a large toy, and there is no more space. Why? Because only 20 MB of that toy was deleted, but the 1.5 GB cache remained. The cache is in modern games in sdcard/Android/data/obb, in earlier games - sdcard/Android/data.

In order to always have enough space on your phone or tablet and avoid any glitches, you need to know how to delete applications on Android. As a rule, deleting simple, user-installed applications on Android OS is not difficult. However, removing system or standard add-ons is not so simple operation and many don't know how to do it.

Sooner or later it becomes necessary to remove unnecessary applications from Android

Most Android add-ons are very easy to remove. We will list several ways in which you can throw away various email clients, Google maps and other things unnecessary for an Android device.

The easiest way is to simply go to the menu where all the icons are displayed, press and hold the icon of the program that you want to remove. A window will appear in which you will need to click on the “Delete” button.

Via settings or Google Play

In addition, in Android, regular applications can also be deleted through the settings menu or the Google Play store. In the settings we simply tap the “Applications” item, then from the list of all installed programs select the one we want to get rid of and click on it. Then click “Delete”.

With Google Play it's just as simple:

  1. Go to Google Play.
  2. We find what we need using the search.
  3. In the Android application window, click “Delete”.

Uninstalling applications on Android via Google Play

We remove software that was not installed by us

With extensions supplied by the creators of the device, everything is far from so simple. The Android OS prevents us from clearing them. As a rule, these are the necessary programs that most owners of Android devices use. However, among them there are also those, such as Gmail, which only accumulate a cache and take up extra memory on the device. Therefore, many want to get rid of them as soon as possible.

The user, as a rule, must have elevated rights in order to remove standard email clients and other carrots from Google. Special programs will help you obtain Root rights. They are both universal and specialized for a specific Android phone or tablet. Among the universal ones:

  • Root App Remover.

Then you need to download any file manager, thanks to which we can get to the system files. After this, all powers must be granted to the conductor.

ES Explorer

ES Explorer is the most commonly used file manager, so using its example we will show in detail how to remove standard applications. It must be provided with extended rights.

  • We go to our file manager and open the settings menu.
  • Tap “Tools”.
  • Select “Root Explorer”, then agree to grant the program all rights.

  • After that, select “Connect as R/W”.

Select the item “Connect as R/W”

  • And check the RW boxes.

Now you can go directly to cleaning installed by developers.

  • Through Explorer, go to the /system/app folder.
  • We look for apk files of those unnecessary applications that we want to remove and delete them.

Removing an apk file

  • If there are odex files with the same name as the application, they also need to be deleted.
  • Updates for system add-ons may be stored in the data/app folder; we also erase them.

Root Uninstaller

There are also a number of special programs that are made to remove applications built into the phone. One of them is Root Uninstaller.

  1. Launch Root Uninstaller.
  2. We grant extended permissions in a manner similar to the previous one.
  3. Open the “System Applications” section.
  4. We select the applications that we want to clean, click on them, and in the window that opens, click “Delete”.

Here are two fairly easy ways to clean your Android device of unnecessary system add-ons. The main thing about them is obtaining expanded rights.

Stop

If you don’t need to completely clear Android of some add-on, you can simply stop it. To do this, select the desired add-on from the list in the settings menu, then click the “Disable” button.

After this it will not be destroyed, but will disappear. It will no longer interfere with your notifications or occupy your cache.
