In this Photoshop tutorial we'll look at a technique for blending two images in a poster style. Hollywood movie. Mixing photos in Photoshop is easy thanks to a layer mask, but matching both photos to the same color scheme is not always easy and, as a result, the photo effect will not look beautiful due to color mismatch.
With this method, you don't have to worry about the colors in the images at all because we will completely desaturate the photo and add our color.

Step 1. The first step is to combine both images into one working document. Open both photos in Photoshop. Select a tool Move (V) and click on the photo of a couple walking on the beach to make it active. Then drag it with the tool onto the photo as shown below.
This is what the palette will look like Layers. Both images are on separate layers.
Step 2. After dragging the photo of the beach onto the working document, you need to reduce (in our case) its size using the command.
Since the photo with the beach is wider in width than the working document, when using the command Free Transform The corner handles on the tool frame will be outside the viewable area of the document. Simply put, we won't see any of the corner markers. To resolve this issue, reduce your working image to a suitable size (Ctrl + -) so that the corner markers are visible.
So let's choose a team Free transformation (Ctrl + T).
Now the corner handles are visible and we can resize the image. While holding down the key Shift(to maintain the image's proportions), drag the corner handles inward to adjust the size of the image. Once you have achieved the result, click Enter.
The image of the couple on the beach is now fine, but the image of the couple behind this layer should be moved a little higher. Again, there is a slight problem. The image is at Background layer (Background), but it cannot be moved (the background layer is locked).
To work around this issue, hold down the key Alt, double click on Background layer (Background). Photoshop will unlock the Background layer and automatically rename it to Layer 0 (Layers 0).
Now, using the tool Move (V), move the image up a little.
Step 3. Now let's proceed directly to blending the images. Activate the top layer and click the icon Add a Layer Mask.
Step 4: Select a tool Gradient (G) and set the settings as below:
Make sure you have the layer mask active. Then press the right mouse button and draw a gradient from the starting point of blending to the ending point and release the button.
This is what happened to me. If you are not happy with your result, click Ctrl+Z to undo the last action and try again.
Step 5. Now let's merge all visible layers into one (Shift + Ctrl + Alt + E).
Step 7 Next we'll add some noise to the image to make the blending look smoother. Select a team Filter > Noise > Add Noise and set the parameters as below:
Step 8. All that remains is to add your color to the image. Add New Fill Or Adjustment Layer and select from the list Color (Solid Color).

Where to begin? From planning. Most Photoshop users do a lot of extra steps to create such a small collage. As usual, this happens - they scatter photographs around the working area by eye, reduce them here, reduce them there, crop them here, crop them there, and so on. I try not to work like that in order to save my time and increase productivity.
Therefore, first you need to prepare a template. What will it give? Firstly, you can immediately and accurately arrange photos according to the intended template. Secondly, if necessary, you can quickly and easily insert new and other photos using the template. In my opinion, the advantages are obvious.
Create new document in Photoshop size 989x676 pixels.
In addition, immediately open all 6 photos that you will use in Photoshop. You will see that they are all opened in different tabs. Leave the new created document tab enabled, where we will create the template. There will be 7 tabs in total.
Now we will create places for photographs. We will use the tool Rectangle(Rectangle), it can be found in the toolbar on the left.
Use any color for the rectangle, as long as it's not the background color so it doesn't blend in.
Place the first rectangle on the image. Here you can determine, by eye, its length, width and location on the working field. But try to adhere to the scheme that we conceived at the very beginning.
The first rectangle is the main one The big picture. I marked the borders of the image in the form of a frame so that you understand how I placed the rectangle on a white background.
Use the same method to draw the remaining rectangles.
As you can see, I placed them at the same distance from each other so that everything was even and beautiful.
Place the rectangles without paying attention to the empty areas of the image that remain in different places. After you have positioned all the rectangles as intended, you can crop the image (working field) from unnecessary ones - using the tool Frame. You can also find it in the panel on the left.

Now we will add photos.
Go to the tab with any photo, select it all using the tool Rectangular area or simply by clicking CTRL+A. Click CTRL+C to copy to the clipboard.
Go to the tab with our template and select in the layers the layer with the rectangle in place of which we want to insert the photo. In this case it is the largest rectangle. Click CTRL+V and the photo is inserted onto a new layer that will be above the rectangle - this is important.
Now right-click on the photo layer and select Create Clipping Mask.
A clipping mask has been created from the photo and it acts on the layer below. And the layer below is our rectangle. What does it mean? This means that the photo will only be displayed within the boundaries of the rectangle.
Here's what it looks like at the moment.
All that remains is to scale the photo down so that it can be seen in its entirety. This can be done in clipping mask mode, no failure will occur.
What should be done. Select the photo layer and click CTRL+T- this way we can transform the photo.
Squares have appeared along the borders of the photo - we drag them with the mouse and the photo will become smaller. For example, while holding SHIFT, pull the bottom square diagonally up, the photo will decrease proportionally.

We make the photo smaller and move it up a little so that the photo is displayed as much as possible in the visible area.
Press ENTER and the first photo is ready.
Use the same method to take all other photos. Select rectangles, paste photos onto a new layer and make clipping masks, then adjust the size of the photo. Everything is like with this photo.

How to combine photos in Photoshop to get a beautiful photo

- Open in Photoshop via “File” - “Open” of the main menu of the program a file with a photo, which will be the base for the image. - Activate the ruler in the work area with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + R. By dragging guides from the vertical and horizontal rulers, set them as shown in the image.
- Using the Rectangular Marquee Tool, select a rectangle along the guidelines as shown in the image below. The tool will seem to stick to the guides, which will allow you to accurately select the desired area.
- Select the bottommost background layer in the Layers Control panel and press Ctrl + J to copy the rectangular area selected in the previous step. After that, holding the created copy layer in the layers control panel, drag it to the very top above the other layers.
- The guides are no longer needed for now and can be hidden with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H (H English).
- Give the new layer additional shadow and stroke styles. To do this, from the main menu, go to “Layers” - “Layer Style” - “Blending Options”. Activate the stroke style and set its values as in the image below.
- Activate the “Shadow” style and also set the necessary parameters for it. As an example, you can use those shown in the following screenshot.

- Select the Ellipse tool, place the cursor on the middle line on the right edge, press the left mouse button and the Alt key on the keyboard and create an oval area with a contour that matches the image. Pressing the Alt key allows you to create an oval from its center.
- Create a selection along the drawn oval. To do this, make sure that the layer with the oval is selected in the layers panel, place the cursor on the image with the figure in this panel, press the Ctrl key on the keyboard and, without releasing the key, click with the left mouse button. As a result, so-called “running ants” should appear along the contour of the oval, which inform you that the selection has been successfully created.
- Now the created layer with the oval is no longer needed, but only the resulting selection is needed. Therefore, a layer can be deleted by dragging it to the Trash in the Layers control panel.
- Invert the selection via "Select" - "Invert" from the main menu, or press the keyboard shortcut Shift + Ctrl + I to do this.
- Fill the inverted selection with a new layer. To do this, click on the create a new layer button in the layers control panel and press Alt + Backspace on your keyboard.
- Keeping the selection selected in the Layers Control panel, select the background (bottom-most) layer and copy it by pressing Ctrl + J. After that, drag it under the top layer, go to the top layer and reduce its opacity to 70%.
- Copy the layer styles created in steps 7 and 8. To do this, select this layer in the layers control panel, right-click on it and select “Copy layer style” from the menu that appears. After that, right-click on the topmost layer and select “Paste Layer Style”. Restore its opacity to 70%.
- In order to add images in the beautiful windows on the left, create a rectangular selection as shown in the figure.
- In the Layer Control Panel, go to the layer with the oval area selected, press the key combination Ctrl + Alt + Shift and, without releasing them, press the left mouse button. As a result of this action, the selection area along the contour of the oval will be cut off.
- Press the Alt key on your keyboard or select the Subtract from Selection option and crop the area to the left. After this, the selection area can be moved to the left using the “Left” arrow on the keyboard.
- Copy the selection on the left to a new layer using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + J.
- Open the photo that you plan to place in the created selection. The photo will open in a new tab. To transfer it to the working canvas, select its entire area using the Ctrl + A keyboard shortcut, copy by pressing Ctrl + C and paste using the Ctrl + V hotkeys.
- To exclude from the added photo everything that extends beyond the objects of the selection area, apply a clipping mask to it. To do this, select the layer with the added photo and press the key combination Alt + Ctrl + G. Restore the transparency on the layer with the selection to 100% and resize the photo to the required values.
- The guide lines and ruler can be turned off, so they are no longer needed. To do this, press the already familiar keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H.
- Follow steps 17-22 to create the image on the bottom left.
- The result is a beautiful image in which three photographs are arranged in an original way.
How to combine two photos or paste a cut out part of one image into another is a simple task for anyone who is a little familiar with Photoshop. But, firstly, not everyone knows how to work in Adobe Photoshop, and secondly, even experienced users do not always know how to superimpose one image onto another well. Let's look at several options for combining several pictures into one image.
In this example picture small size superimposed entirely, as they are, onto a larger image that serves as the background. Each small picture is located in a separate layer and partially overlaps the layers below.
How it's done? You need to open all the necessary photos in Photoshop. Depending on the version of Photoshop, you will see several windows with pictures in the program window, several tabs, or at the top of the window next to the menu there is such a button with an opening menu.

In the same way, drag other pictures onto the background layer and arrange them in the desired order.
What should I do if the image I'm inserting is too big or too small? You need to increase or decrease it. To do this, click on the layer with the inserted image, select Edit from the menu > Free Transform, or press CTRL+T and drag the handles or rotate the inserted image.
Inserting a fragment from another picture into an image
Much more often you need to cut out only part of one photo and superimpose this fragment on another photo. Such compositions from parts of different images are called photomontage or photo collage.
Open the image from which you will cut, select the required fragment with any suitable selection tool, copy Edit > Copy, then go to the main document and paste the copied part of the image Edit > Paste. The inserted fragment is located in a separate layer and its dimensions can be changed as you need.
The main difficulty in this case is to qualitatively select the desired part from the picture. To avoid problems with selection, images from clipart collections are often used - pictures on a transparent background, or isolates - objects on a white or black background. A homogeneous background can be easily selected with a magic wand and removed.

Smooth transition from one image to another
In some cases, you need to make one image smoothly transition into another, or some part of the picture becomes transparent, and the background is visible through it.
To overlay one image on top of another in Photoshop, open both original photos and drag a layer from one open image to another document. Upper layer make it semi-transparent (in the Layers panel, reduce the Opacity parameter to 50-60%) so that you can see the bottom one through it and move the image on each layer so that the parts of your future creation fit well together.
If you need to do it quickly and High Quality not required, you can use a soft eraser - the Eraser tool to quickly erase part of the layer. The Brush tool sets the size, shape, density, and hardness of the elastic band, so in the brush settings, the Hardness parameter must be set to 0, and in the brush parameters panel, Opacity (Opacity) must be set to 20-30%.
Erase with an eraser in the right places part of the top image and, when finished, return the Opacity parameter to 100% for this layer. The layer will become opaque, but those places where the rubber band has been applied will be completely or partially transparent.

To add a mask, go to the layer with the top image and at the bottom of the Layers panel, click the Add Leyer Mask button.
On the panel Photoshop tools Set the colors to black and white (foreground and background). Select the gradient tool, in the gradient settings set the transition from black to white. Click on the mask to make it active and create a gradient transition in the area where your images overlap. The edge of the top image will become transparent. Toward the middle, the transparency will decrease.
To add realism to the image, select a soft brush, make sure the mask is active and add black and white areas to the mask. Remember that in a mask you should paint black where you want to hide part of the layer, and white where you want to open some area.

Inserting a fragment of an image
Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editor that allows you to cut, modify and paste images. A novice designer can open a photo in which the object or subject he likes is located, and then, using the tools of Adobe Photoshop, cut it out. In Photoshop, two photos are opened at once. One is grabbed with the mouse and dragged into the second document, in which two backgrounds are then formed at once. The top layer needs to be made half transparent. To do this, the user should find the “Opacity” parameter in the “Layers” panel, go to it and use the slider to reduce the parameter by 50-60%.
After this, the second image, located under the first, will be easy to view. The user must move the first or second photo so that they are positioned relative to each other as ideally as possible.
Next you will need to use some tools, which include an eraser and a brush. The eraser will allow you to erase part of the top layer according to the user's design vision. The brush tool allows you to customize the eraser with the desired parameters of hardness, density, transparency, size and shape.
Be sure to set the brush settings to zero hardness and 20–30% opacity. After all the necessary places in the first photo are erased with an eraser, the user must return the opacity parameter to 100% for the first layer.
You can also apply a mask, then both photos remain intact, but part of the image of one of them will be hidden.
On the panel, select two primary colors (black and white), then take the “gradient” tool, in the settings of which you set the transition from black to white. Now on the created mask using a gradient the user creates a gradient transition at his own discretion. To increase realism, take a soft brush and paint white and black areas with it, remembering that areas painted with black will subsequently be opaque, and vice versa with white. All that remains is to place the image on top of the main background, and then add a mask. This way you can stitch together two photos as realistically as possible.
