Biography

He dreamed of becoming the "fifth Beatle" in childhood and made guitars on his own, but, as it turned out, a completely different stage awaited him - the stage on which he managed to become one of the most beloved, sought-after and, without a doubt, the most beautiful actors in Russian theater and cinema. .

Alexander Gavrilovich Abdulov was born in Tobolsk, but he spent his childhood in Fergana. His theatrical parents always dreamed that at least one of their sons would become an actor. Therefore, we can say that Abdulov's biography was predetermined. However, his older brothers also tried to enter theater universities, but only Abdulov succeeded, although not the first time. After studying for a year at the Pedagogical Institute and having worked as a stage worker in the theater where his father played, Alexander again went to Moscow and entered GITIS.

It is difficult to deny that Mark Zakharov played a decisive role in the acting biography of Alexander Abdulov. He noted Abdulov at his graduation performance and immediately invited him to Lenkom. And the real cinematic fame came to him precisely after Mark Zakharov's film "An Ordinary Miracle", where he played the Bear. The next role of Abdulov - in the drama "Do not part with your loved ones" - only strengthened his success. By the beginning of the 80s, he became an incredibly popular actor, acting simultaneously in several films at once. At the same time, he was not at all limited to romantic roles, he also had comedic roles in his arsenal, and shooting in detective stories, historical films and dramas.

In life, Alexander Abdulov was as versatile as in the movies. A good adoptive father for Ksenia Alferova, daughter of Abdulov's first wife Irina Alferova. An activist who organized the Zadvorki charity festival and revived the Moscow International Film Festival. And in everyday life, he was a man who loved fishing and guests, kind, reliable, quick-witted, always coming to the rescue in difficult times, full of plans and desires. Even when he was diagnosed with a serious illness, Abdulov did not give up. He promised his fans - soon I will return to you, soon I will play in "Marriage", but, alas, not even a small "ordinary miracle" happened.

The cause of death of Alexander Abdulov was lung cancer of the fourth degree. The death of Alexander Abdulov occurred on January 3, 2008. For relatives, friends and numerous admirers, the death of Abdulov, a young, cheerful, full of strength, was a real shock. Abdulov's funeral began with a civil memorial service at Lenkom, where only relatives and friends of Abdulov were admitted. Thousands of his fans stood outside near the theater from 7 in the morning, despite the severe frost, and only at 11 o'clock people were allowed inside to say goodbye to their favorite artist. The funeral of Alexander Abdulov ended at the Vagankovsky cemetery. Abdulov's grave is located next to the Church of the Resurrection.

Episodes of life

When Alexander Abdulov proposed to Alferova, she jokingly replied that she would agree only if the actor carried her through the entire park in her arms. Abdulov fulfilled the request of his beloved without hesitation. At the time when Alexander and Irina decided to get married, she was already pregnant by a Bulgarian businessman, but Abdulov raised Xenia as his own, hiding from everyone that he was her stepfather for a long time. According to Xenia's memoirs, her father always fiddled with her, worked out and was a wonderful father.

Once, on tour of Lenkom abroad, Alexander Abdulov played in Juno and Avos. In one of the scenes, he portrayed a flaming heretic, manipulating two burning torches at once. The Americans who saw this demanded that there be no fire, they say, your artist has such a crazy look that we think that he will throw fire into the hall. Mark Zakharov tried to explain that it was not Abdulov who had a crazy look, but his hero, but the Americans believed in the actor’s brilliant play so much that they agreed to torches only if they were chained to Abdulov with special metal bracelets. The director had to agree to this.

When Abdulov fell ill, many tried to support him, including his favorite team, Spartak. Footballers went to matches in T-shirts with the image of the actor, and friends recorded video messages and sent them to the hospital. Even Irina Alferova sent a message to Abdulov with the words “Who said that love is leaving? Doesn't go anywhere! I love you, Sasha!

Interview with Alexander Abdulov

condolences

“In my life this happens for the first time: a young man whose life was literally before my eyes, left the earth before I did. There is some tragic riddle in this, which, I'm afraid, is impossible to unravel. Abdulov made a huge contribution to the development of Lenkom and the Russian repertory theater in general, as well as to the national cinema. He was definitely a popular favorite. We felt this when Abdulov fell ill and a huge number of letters came to the theater, and some, having learned about the illness, very persistently sought a personal meeting. Being a resolute person, Sasha fiercely resisted the disease, but she turned out to be stronger. I did not expect such a tragic departure. This is a huge loss not only for the Lenkom Theatre.”
Mark Zakharov, director

“How grateful I am to God, to fate, that you were in my life. You are not my own dad - I really never felt that. When I found out about this, I was terribly upset. I thought that this was some kind of injustice - he should have a child of his own, and by the end of his life he, or rather, she appeared! At first I was delighted, and then I was afraid that you would no longer need me. I now realized that this is stupid, I realized that you needed me no less than you needed me ... It’s a pity that you understand such things too late.
Ksenia Alferova, actress, adopted daughter of Alexander Abdulov

“Sasha left us as a child, although he lived for 54 years. This is the strength of the actor - to remain a child. Once in the hospital, I saw his eyes, which became half a face. They asked: why? He passed away at the peak of happiness - he finally had a family and a child. For what? Nobody can answer this question. Including me. Therefore, in the hospital, I lowered my eyes. And this look of yours, Sasha, will remain in my memory for the rest of my life.
Oleg Yankovsky, actor

“More recently, it seemed that he was on the mend, there was an improvement in his condition, and now ... We wanted to call him, but he didn’t really make contact - apparently, he didn’t want to talk in such a state. We wanted to lend a helping hand, say, "Please don't give up." And we know that he did not give up to the last and fought as best he could. It’s hard to imagine that he won’t call us again and ask: “How are you?”.
Sergei Shavlo, CEO of Spartak

“A terrible illness tragically cut short the life of this outstanding actor. And such a loss is truly irreparable. Millions of people - fans of the work of Alexander Abdulov - mourn with us. The audience will forever keep the bright memory of this wonderful artist, infinitely devoted to his native theater. And, of course, they will love his bright, sparkling and deep work in cinema.”
Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation

For his life, Alexander Abdulov played in more than a hundred films. Courageous fairy-tale heroes and realistic negative characters, comedic and dramatic images - his diverse works invariably captivated the viewer. Alexander Gavriilovich was incredibly hardworking, never lost his sense of humor and often took risks: on almost all shootings, he worked without an understudy.

Beatleman from Fergana

Alexander Abdulov was born on May 29, 1953 in Tobolsk. However, the boy's childhood passed in Uzbekistan. There, in the city of Ferghana, his father Gavriil Abdulov created the first Russian drama theater in Central Asia and became its artistic director. Mother Lyudmila Alexandrovna worked in the same theater as a dresser and make-up artist.

Alexander was the third son in the family. His two older brothers did not want to follow the theatrical path, and his father dreamed of a successor. Therefore, from childhood he brought up in his son "artistic nature". At the age of five, Alexander first went on stage with his father in a production of the famous play of socialist realism "Kremlin Chimes". Abdulov recalled that from childhood he was inspired to treat the theater as a temple. Father even forbade walking around his theater without removing his headdress.

Nevertheless, for a long time the stage was not at all the main hobby for Alexander. He often misbehaved, made explosives from chemicals stolen from school, painted his face with his mother's makeup to scare the neighbors, and played the songs of his favorite The Beatles on the guitar. Abdulov studied averagely: the only subject where he achieved obvious success was physical education. He was professionally engaged in fencing and was even awarded the title of Master of Sports of the USSR. Subsequently, this skill helped him more than once on the set, for example, in The Ordinary Miracle, Abdulov fenced himself, without understudies.

After school, his father insisted that Alexander go to Moscow to enter the Shchepkin Theater School. The son fulfilled the request, but failed in the exams. Abdulov returned back, passed the exams for the Faculty of Physical Education of the Ferghana Pedagogical Institute, and in order not to lose his creative form, he got a job as an actor to serve his father in the theater. But even here there were some excesses: Abdulov was late for the show and disrupted one of the performances. For this, his father kicked him out of the troupe and appointed him a simple stage worker. After dragging the scenery in Fergana for a year, in the summer of 1970 Alexander again went to storm Moscow. This time, luck smiled at him - Abdulov successfully passed the exams and entered GITIS for the course of Joseph Raevsky.

First theatrical successes

In Moscow, Abdulov had a hard time: he wandered around the dormitories, worked on unloading wagons, and rejoiced when the opportunity arose to act in extras. Alexander himself later compared himself to a mongrel who swung to conquer the capital.

The main romantic experience in Abdulov's life was also connected with Lenkom - a meeting with Irina Alferova. She joined the troupe in 1976. According to legend, Alexander proposed to her on tour in Yerevan. Irina then jokingly replied: "Carry me in your arms through the park, I'll marry you!" Alexander fulfilled the condition with ease, and upon returning to Moscow, the lovers secretly got married.

Bear, Lancelot and Volodya Smirnov

Since the mid-1970s, Alexander Abdulov began to offer the first full-fledged roles in the cinema. His debut was the film "About Vitya, about Masha and the Marine Corps." Abdulov also took part in a series of famous films: "12 Chairs", "The meeting place cannot be changed", "The Lost Expedition". But popular love came to the artist after the adaptation of the "Ordinary Miracle" by the same Mark Zakharov.

Abdulov tried to play the widest possible range of roles. After the iconic romantic hero Bear in The Ordinary Miracle, he happily played the charming anti-hero - Volodya Smirnov in The Most Charming and Attractive
. After the melancholy Lancelot in "Kill the Dragon" -
tragic Kashtanov in Eldar Ryazanov's late film Quiet Pools.

Abdulov's readiness to turn to comic roles and nonconformist position remained unchanged. Alexander Gavriilovich himself connected these things:

In the 1990s, Abdulov was looking for new creative directions for himself. He played the main role in the landmark post-perestroika film "Genius", wrote the script for the film "Schizophrenia", arranged a charity festival "Backyards", which featured not only Lenkom actors, but also rock musicians. The actor sent the proceeds from the event to orphanages, and the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Putinki, located next to the theater, was also restored with the funds raised.

In 2000, Abdulov made his debut as a director, staging the musical The Bremen Town Musicians and Co. With the participation of the actor, the Moscow International Film Festival was revived, which Alexander Abdulov headed for several years.

In August 2007, the media reported for the first time about the actor's illness. On January 3, 2008, Alexander Abdulov passed away. He is buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery in Moscow.

Unexpected ending

2007, like all previous years, was a busy year for Alexander Gavrilovich: work in the theater, filming in the films "Kapkan", "Artist", "Leningrad". In July, Alexander Gavrilovich began film adaptation of Alexei Tolstoy's novel The Hyperboloid of Engineer Garin.

All the more unexpected was the news of his illness, first reported by the media at the end of August. He underwent surgery, but his general condition only worsened after that. Added problems with the heart and pressure. Alexander Gavrilovich went to Israel for a consultation, where a terrible sentence was pronounced - lung cancer of the fourth stage.

In his latest film “From nowhere with love or a fun funeral”, directed by Vladimir Fokin, Alexander Abdulov played the role of an emigrant artist Alik, dying of cancer ... The director of the film, after Abdulov was diagnosed with cancer, noted that this was not fate, but simply coincidence. What a terribly terrible coincidence!

The outcome was a foregone conclusion, but I simply did not want to believe in it. Millions of people sent words of support, hoping for a miracle.
Alexander Gavrilovich himself, famous for his love of life and strong character, struggled with a terrible disease until the end of his days. Miracles don't happen. On the morning of January 3, 2008, he passed away ...

Reference:

Lung cancer is virtually untreatable. This disease is accompanied by a number of adverse symptoms that disrupt breathing processes. A person cannot fully breathe, gas exchange is disturbed, from which very little oxygen enters the body. Metabolic processes are disturbed, and the body rapidly dies.
How people die from lung cancer and how quickly depends on many contributing factors.

People's Artist of the RSFSR, Commander of the Orders of Honor and For Services to the Fatherland, winner of many professional awards, actor Alexander Abdulov in his youth was not going to devote his life to cinema. He dreamed of a sports career and even became a master of sports of the USSR in fencing. Being the son of a theater director, he first appeared on stage at the age of five and often visited the Fergana Drama Theater, studied music, but dreamed of getting into the Faculty of Physical Education of the Fergana Pedagogical Institute. Life ordered differently and he lived it according to a different scenario. The cause of death of Alexander Abdulov was an oncological disease.

He was born in 1953 in Tobolsk, but left with his family for Ferghana, where he graduated from high school, and after that, at the insistence of his father, he tried to enter the Shchepkinsky Theater School. After the failure, Abdulov nevertheless became a student of physical education, but a year later he again went to Moscow, this time to GITIS, which he successfully graduated from. He was noticed at the graduation performance by the famous director Mark Zakharov and in 1975 he was invited to the Moscow theater of the Lenin Komsomol. It turned out to be a “work for life”: Abdulov left Lenkom only for filming and always returned.

Filmmaking started even earlier. In 1974, he starred in the debut role of infantryman Kozlov in the children's film "About Vitya, about Masha and the Marine Corps." The popularity of Abdulov was brought by Zakharov's film adaptation of Schwartz's play "An Ordinary Miracle", where he played the Bear. In 1979, the drama “Do not part with your loved ones” was released, where the actor played Mitya in a duet with his wife Irina Alferova. In total, Alexander Abdulov took part in the filming of more than 110 films of various genres and topics. He had an extensive creative range and all the roles he played, from comedy to tragedy, became successful.

The most interesting images created by Abdulov in the cinema are Sergey Nenashev in the detective story "Genius", Koroviev in the drama "The Master and Margarita" and some others awarded film festivals. His directorial work in the musical The Bremen Town Musicians, which also received an award, turned out to be interesting. Theatrical roles of Abdulov gave him the opportunity to more fully reveal his talent and were repeatedly awarded prestigious awards.

In August 2007, the actor underwent surgery in Sevastopol for an ulcer, from which he became ill with his heart. After a six-day stay in intensive care, the actor was hastily transferred to Moscow, but he did not get better. A month later, Israeli oncologists diagnosed him with advanced lung cancer. He died six months later in the clinic, at the age of 54. Determining why Alexander Abdulov, who had a good athletic shape and strong build, died, the doctors called long-term smoking the main cause of the onset of the disease.

After a civil memorial service in his native theater and a funeral service in the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Putinki, he was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery in Moscow.
