Who is Matrona of Moscow
The story of Blessed Matronushka began even before her birth. She was the fourth child, and mother Natalya Nikonova, fearing that the family would not be able to feed all the children, made a difficult decision: she was going to abandon the girl immediately after her birth. But on the eve of giving birth, the woman dreamed of an unusual bird with human face and closed eyes. A deeply religious Natalya interpreted this vision as a sign from above: God does not consent to the abandonment of a child. The dream turned out to be prophetic: on November 10, 1881, a blind baby was born into a poor peasant family.

Unusual events that began to accompany the girl throughout her life began during baptism. The priest, lowering the child into the font, noticed a light haze around the baby, emitting a fragrance. The priest noted this as a sign that the baby was chosen by God.
Matrona’s mother noted that the newborn girl began to fast on her own. Little Matrona did not eat milk on Wednesdays and Fridays, refusing to breastfeed. These days she just slept all day long.
Since childhood, Matronushka was different from her peers. While other children were having fun in the yard, the future saint loved to spend time in the red corner, playing with icons. As she grew older, the girl began to sing along in the church choir. People already at this time noticed the child’s unusual abilities, and at the age of eight she received visitors as a seer and healer. People endlessly came to a simple peasant hut, bringing with them treats and gifts in gratitude. So, from an extra mouth, Matrona turned into a breadwinner for the family. She helped all the sick and unfortunate, healing them from physical and spiritual ailments.

The life of the saint describes in detail one of the cases of Matrona’s miracle-working. Four kilometers from her native village There lived a paralyzed man who could not walk. The young healer told him to crawl to her in the morning. To get home unusual girl, it took the patient half a day, and he went back on his own feet.
In addition to the gift of healing, Matrona could predict the future. So, she foresaw the death of the local priest Vasily, a fire in the village, and later predicted a revolution, persecution of Christians and even the Second world war. Without registration, Matrona was forced to live with caring people, acquaintances and relatives. In the capital, hunger, cold and the constant threat of arrest awaited her. Pursued by the police, she more than once foresaw the arrival of the servants of the law and moved out of the apartment the day before their appearance. The last refuge of the old woman was a station near Moscow, where her distant relative lived. The seer died there on May 2, 1952. During her lifetime, the holy old woman especially rejoiced at daisies and cornflowers. But any other flowers will do. If only they were given from the heart.

The end of the road

One of these women, Zhdanova Zinaida, lived with Matrona for several years, until she moved from Moscow to Skhodnya. Canonization
The life of Matronushka has caused and continues to cause a lot of controversy in the Orthodox community. Her life was studied in detail; it was noted that the old woman herself said that it was the Lord who helped people, not her. The holy old woman was recognized as a righteous woman; canonization, after much controversy, took place in 1999. The ceremony at the Pokrovsky Monastery was conducted by Patriarch Alexy II. So many people gathered that day that the crowd could not fit under the arches of the church. Believers occupied the entire area around the temple. Since then, the flow to the relics of St. Matrona of Moscow has not decreased.
Matrona was a martyr and righteous woman from birth to the end of her days. On her deathbed, she bequeathed to the believers to talk to her and tell her everything as they did during life. And she sees and hears everyone to this day.
