In July and August, warm sunny weather reigns in Bulgaria with rare cloudy days, and the precipitation of tourists practically does not bother and cannot affect the quality of the rest. But at the beginning beach season and its “velvet” part, there are certain roughnesses that all tourists who plan to save a little should be aware of.

It is unlikely that a travel agency will tell you about these risks, because the Bulgarian Riviera is excellently "sold" due to its low cost and beautiful weather statistics. But if you dig deeper, you can understand where the legs of this attractiveness grow from and what you need to be prepared for.

The main purpose of this article is to familiarize you in detail with weather features in May, June and September. In no case do we want to dissuade you from buying tours at this time. So with a probability of 65-70% you will most likely be carried past all the problems.

The main risks of rest at the beginning of the season

Despite the fact that the Black Sea is still cold in May (16-18 degrees), resort hotels open their doors for tourists already in the second half of May, when the air warms up to +21..+24 º. At the same time, the first tourists arrive who are interested in hotel service and favorable climate. There is no mention of swimming yet. The second half of May is characterized by warm cloudy weather. It is getting warmer every week, but you should not expect stability from Bulgaria at this time. So in 2012 at the end of May there were three rainy days and twice thunderstorms. There was no sun during the day, and the air temperature was no higher than +18 ...

By the beginning of summer, the entire beach infrastructure has already been deployed, but hotels can operate in economy mode (depending on the weather and the influx of tourists). For example, there may not be animation, the pool may not work, or minor repairs are underway in the hotel.

What is good and dangerous for tourists in June?

June - best time for relaxing holidays with kids who still find it difficult to endure the heat, and swimming in the sea is not so important. Prices have not yet reached their peak, but there are reasons for this. The second decade of the month is the last chance to try to catch good price tour combined with perfect weather.

June is the most unpredictable month. Even the Bulgarians themselves call the June tourists “lucky catchers”.

If you can still talk about the first decade in approximately the same colors as about the end of May, then from June 15-16 in Bulgaria a real summer can come with +27 days and the water warms up to 22-23 degrees. But it could be different... The sky can easily be covered with clouds for 3-4 days and the rain will pour from morning to evening, creating a great excuse to empty the bars and gain weight in the restaurant. Interestingly, these two scenarios tend to alternate and what is happening today it's raining, will not necessarily mean that it will be cool tomorrow.

This weather can reign in June

Starting from the 20th of June, the coast usually comes good weather, and with it the tourists in diapers.

In June, water exchange often occurs in the Black Sea (especially after a thunderstorm), so if +24 unexpectedly changes to +18 and a red flag is on rescue towers, don't be surprised. In 2-3 days the temperature is restored if there are warm nights.

Warm nights are the best helper to keep the water temperature. Judging by the weather archives, the water begins to warm up quickly by the middle of the month. But things like storms and thunderstorms can interfere with your vacation plans. The chances are not great, but unlike July and August, they are.

Rest during the peak season (July-August)

The peak of the season falls on the second week of July and lasts until the end of the second decade of August. At this time in Bulgaria there is gorgeous weather with a daytime temperature of 28-32 degrees, and the water in the sea warms up to 26 degrees Celsius. There is practically no precipitation at this time, and the hotels are 100% full despite the rather high prices.

If you are planning to relax in 4-5 star hotels, you should think about early booking, because. demand for holidays in Bulgaria at this time rolls over. There are several reasons for this. The main reason is the focus on family holiday and sparing weather. In addition, the beaches and Bulgarian hotels are chosen by elderly tourists from Germany for whom ideal conditions are created here in terms of price / quality of service / climate.

Frankly hot time begins to subside after August 20 and until the first days of September. At this time, ideal conditions are again created for families with children who do not tolerate hot weather. During the day, the air temperature at the end of August sometimes reaches 30-32 degrees, but this happens when. The water in the Black Sea at the end of August warms up to +24..+26.

Until the last days of August, prices for accommodation stay at a fairly high level and you should not count on last-minute tours or discounts.

Velvet season: is it worth the risk?

The high season ends in early September, when the bulk of vacationers go to school.

Bulgarian resorts “cool down” quite quickly, but it depends on the weather. If it comes atmospheric front and the sky is covered with rain clouds, then to summer heat usually the weather doesn't come back. Much nicer when the weather gradually gives way.

The velvet season in Bulgaria does not last long - about 2-3 weeks of September. At this time, the air temperature drops to 24-27 °, and in the evening a blouse or a light sweater will not interfere. The water in the sea is still for swimming and is kept around 23-24°. The first week of September usually still resembles August, but may be an exception. At least, you should not count on the fact that at this time you will have clear weather and a scorching sun. Most likely you will find a couple of gloomy and cloudy days.

It should be borne in mind that the entire tourist infrastructure (water entertainment, amusement parks in cities, animation) begins to collapse from the first days of autumn, so tourists arriving in September are clearly not disposed to water activities, attractions and other summer business pleasures. Therefore, if you decide to go to Bulgaria at the end of the tourist season, then rely more on yourself and.

The last decade of September closes tourist season because the cloudy days are on Bulgarian resorts it becomes more than sunny, the air temperature drops to 20-25 ° and it becomes cool even during the day. True, the water will still be within 20-24 ° until the first days of October, but you can already forget about warm sand and lifeguards on the beach.

But the prices for accommodation will be very attractive and profitable for those who know how to appreciate the sea air and a relaxing holiday with a book.

I also really liked the restaurant in Elenite "Robinson" on the coast. It has amazing panoramic sea views. Sitting in this romantic corner, you admire the sailboat floating on the waves, seagulls soaring in the turquoise sky and enjoy delicious ice cream. In such moments of perfect bliss, you forget about everything in the world!!! In Ravda, we liked spicy ice cream in pretty clay pots in a restaurant on the Embankment. There it was the most diverse: with chocolate, raisins, figs, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, nuts, honey and other sweets. There is also a wonderful restaurant with live music and dancing ... There is a Promenade, where it is quiet, cozy, with benches on the Embankment, where you can sit and listen to the melody of the surf at night ... Many signs and price tags on the menu in Cyrillic restaurants are understandable to us . But there are very funny in our understanding. For example, there is the dish "Tsa-tsa" (?????), "Shepherd's salad" (from a shepherd dog or for shepherd dogs?), "strangle mussels" (I wonder: how long did they choke them before they hit the table?) . It was a discovery for me that from time immemorial, our beloved national dish Vareniki, in one restaurant menu, was declared by the Polish national dish Pies ... Every day, going to the beach, I admired the amazing colors of flowers on the flower beds, evenly trimmed hedge bushes, decoratively trimmed thujas, getting incredible aesthetic pleasure from this unearthly beauty and inhaling the aroma of evergreens. But here is the beach on Sunny Beach I didn't like it very much. Boardwalk to the sea with broken boards. You walk on it with the risk of dislocating your leg. There is rubbish on the beach. Toilets are all paid for 1.5 euros. Once spoiled the mood of one man who took an umbrella and made a complaint to us that the shadow of the umbrella falls on our place ... The beach there is large and uncomfortable. The sea is all in algae, like green borscht. Therefore, we went to another place - Elenite. In Elenite, at the entrance to the beach, a Certificate of Quality is posted on the stand sea water and sand from the European Commission, indicating their excellent condition. The nature there is gorgeous - the town is located in a picturesque gorge, the landscapes are not inferior in beauty to the Swiss ones! The name means "deer". Deer are found here in the forests of the mountains. The mountains are covered with coniferous trees, causing a mix of the purest mountain air masses with marine ionized. Therefore, here is the only climatic resort Bulgaria. The air is just magical! And inhale the aroma of eucalyptus and roses, walking along the alley to the sea for 3 minutes - a pleasure .. In Elenite, we lived in the elite resort complex Villa Astoria 1 with a bewitching panoramic view of the most luxurious hotel on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast - "Royal Castle" 5 *. People of the Government of Bulgaria rest there. The place is really amazing! The complex is very beautiful, elite. The resort, built by Finnish specialists, until recently was a closed club type. The entrance was paid - 20 euros. Now it has become available to a wide range of tourists. The resort is calmer than Sunny Beach. The most romantic on the whole coast. Villa Astoria 1 is located in the center of Elenite surrounded by upscale hotels high level. Near it there are 2 supermarkets with everything you need for a good rest. From the sea - 3 min walking along a wonderful alley of roses and thuja bushes. We lived in Villa Astoria 1 in Studio N2 on the 1st floor with our own cute emerald lawn. The lawn faces south towards the sea. You can sunbathe on it, drink your morning coffee or dine by candlelight, inhaling the scent of roses, eucalyptus trees and admiring the stars... You can also have a barbecue. To do this, there is a brazier, an umbrella from the sun, garden furniture. From the products bought in the supermarket around the corner, we prepared delicious lunches and ate on the balcony. And in the evening we went to the restaurant of the hotel "Zornitza Sands" 4 *. In Elenite, I liked that it was quiet there, not like on the noisy Sunny Beach with drunken tourists always screaming songs from the balconies. And the disco there rattles until the morning. Then young people run up the stairs screaming. As the owner of the hotel explained to us, Sunny Beach is a youth resort. The internet is weak there. I spent half a day running around the house to catch him ... And the mosquitoes pestered there all night so that I had to hide with my head. So one morning I barely woke up my father. He almost suffocated .. They explain this by the fact that there used to be swamps there. They were dried up. But the mosquitoes remained! But in Elenite there was not a single mosquito! And we slept peacefully all night. On my first visit to Elenite, I met a nice woman in a supermarket. She took Bulgarian dishes from the culinary department, which she praised very much. She told me that she also came to Bulgaria for the first time and was vacationing in Sunny Beach. But having visited Elenite, more than a foot on the noisy Sunny Beach! And I remember how all 3 weeks of living in Sunny Beach we inhaled the smell of sewerage spilled all over the road. And no one cared about it! And once in Elenite - I felt like in Paradise. This friend of mine has become a permanent vacationer of Villa Astoria 1. From year to year she comes there with her daughter for the whole summer. Says that best place not on the entire coast. Pawnshops in Sunny Beach are all closed all the time. But the numbers of their contact phones are posted on the doors. Casino "Kuban" (the largest on the Coast) is also like a top-secret object. So many security guards... Entrance only strictly according to passports. And one guy sits there and plays ... But there is also an open playing house there. But what is surprising is that in crowded places on the streets where vacationers with children walk, they sell candid shots...with naked female body. In Sunny Beach, one day I noticed sausages hanging from afar in one open pavilion. Coming closer and looking closely - I could not believe my eyes: these were sex shop goods !!! Well, I have never seen anything like it on the streets. Moreover, the dark samples were many times heavier than their white counterparts, lonely hanging below! :-) Taxis are expensive there. For example, for 8 km (from Sunny Beach to Elenite) they ask for 30 levs (15 euros). But you have to bargain. I came for 20 lv. On the way back another driver asked for BGN 40. I bargained and arrived for 25. In 2016, I rested in Ravda. We rented a room in a guest house. On the 4th floor there was no air conditioning in the room. It was hot like an oven! They brought the fan on the last day. The trash didn't pick up. Hygiene products were not provided. South Coast Bulgaria entertainment for every taste and budget! There are Water parks, water rides, parachutes, jet skis, Banana, Tablet rides, boat trips on the Pirate Boat, sightseeing rides on the Fairy Train, rides in a carriage pulled by a pair of bay horses, on bicycle rickshaws, on electric scooters, various attractions , horror rooms, Ferris Wheel. Can be taken SPA treatments in an aquarium with fish and take spa treatments all year round in Elenite at the Royal-Castle 5 * Spa Hotel. When entering and leaving Bulgaria, our driver treated us to amazing chocolate cookies "Coffee Tunkovani Bisquiti". I also bought myself a pack to take home. I also took halva with chocolate. They consider it their national product. I took home a sweet souvenir - Turkish delight. It also melts in your mouth! In general, Bulgarian products and sweets are simply wonderful! Be sure to try all these sweets that I wrote about! I think that Bulgaria has something to be proud of: wonderful climatic conditions, beautiful nature, delicious meals national cuisine, good nature and diligence of the people. The country is moving forward by leaps and bounds, flourishing is felt everywhere. The flow of tourists increases from year to year. In Bulgaria, I took hundreds of pictures of the architectural solutions I liked, the beauty landscape designs, sea views and much more. And it was really difficult to choose only 20 pictures from these beauties! I like them all. When I looked around Sunny Beach, seeing how crowds of tourists poured out of the approaching huge buses, filling all the streets so that it was impossible to pass, I remembered the words of the tourism manager: "Bulgaria is a tourist country!" Yes, she was right. Bulgaria is indeed a Tourist Country! It has all the conditions (especially in the young and developing resort of Elenite) for comfortable rest, enjoying the wonderful climate and warm sea for health and happiness. I remembered the story of a woman who lives in Villa Astoria 1. She told how a couple, 90 years old each, arrived there. They barely took a breath. But after living there for a year, they improved their health and gained strength so much that, like mountain goats, they began to run along mountain paths and climb to the 6th (!) floor without an elevator. Those who have ever been to Sunny Bulgaria come back again and again. And for many, Bulgaria has already become the second, if not the first home!

Practice shows that summer in Bulgaria is different) To paraphrase the famous expression, what is not rotten will burn. Exactly a year ago, Bulgaria was flooded with rain, and, in general, it was almost washed away by floods into the sea. Recently, the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announced a yellow code for the country due to abnormal heat.

Heat in Bulgarian burning. Honestly, for me it's better to be hot than cold and wet.

The yellow code has been announced in 21 regions of Bulgaria (count throughout the country), where, according to the forecast, intense heat will continue in the next two weeks - up to 39C. The highest temperatures are expected in the center of the country, and the lowest on the coast, that is, at the sea in the region of +30C, and, for example, in Montana or Vratsa up to +39C. Of course, not everywhere will be smooth and cloudless, somewhere fresher. And, in general, it’s not a fact that snow won’t fall in a week - nature doesn’t have bad weather 🙂

At sea at such high temperatures it becomes very humid and then it is very difficult to breathe. Especially in Sunny Beach - it stands very low in a swampy area.

It is best to wait out the heat higher up in the mountains, but it is still very hot in Sofia, but it is a dry heat and therefore everything seems very beautiful in the shade. The main thing is not to be in the sun, because then it is no longer 30C, but all 40C and you feel like someone else's breakfast in the microwave.
It is good that the wind is blowing - it is very pleasant. At our house, all the doors are wide open and a wonderful little swindler walks: you feel not only the fullness of life, but also the aromas of summer.
It’s better not to go outside after 10 am and before 8 pm, although yesterday we ourselves went on business at noon and saw a bunch of people walking around Sofia. And what to do - everything works. It's good that Sofia is full of greenery, at the beginning of summer there was a lot of rain and therefore it has not yet burned out - there is where to hide.
